Probably so you order at the kiosk thing instead of staring at each selection and slowly deciding.
They want you to choose from the preset menu instead of making your own choices because that’s more profitable
It literally tells you the reason on the signs
Because as it says on the glass, they want you to order on the touch screen kiosks. Faster for everyone that way so people aren’t standing staring at the ingredients and being picky over which tomato slice looks nicer.
If it’s anything like the one i walked into and immediately out of once, it’s so that you can’t see that the meats are fucking disgusting.. dried out, cracked.. flies around.
Can’t imagine how many footie fans have gotten ill after stepping out the stadium three buildings up and thinking it was a quick easy meal.
probably improves aesthetics (and the need to maintain them) given how manky some of the ingredient bars i’ve seen are. bin-end mushy lettuce and squashed, collapsed tomato towers really put me off ordering.
I’m amazed they’re still open. They’ve so few customers that I thought they’d joined Turkish barbers, vape shops and nail bars as money launderettes.
This sounds rubbish. I need to supervise how many jalapeños they’re putting in my sandwich.
There’s only one person at my local who gets it right. Everyone else thinks ‘loads’ means about six slices.
Would help if Subway wasn’t so over priced, stopped going there awhile back as it’s not worth this price for me
Probably so they can use the subway formula, which is barely even enough food, without customers complaining since they are unlikely to notice that they only got 6 olives in their footlong.
So you can’t see to tell them to put more salad on when they’re being the stingiest they possibly can be without infringing trades description act.
So you can’t count the number of flies on the extras
So you can’t see the poor quality dried up fuckery they describe as food.
So they can skimp on the toppings even more without risking immediate complaints
This is a dying business. I feel bad for the people who invested in their franchise.
First they switch you to the kiosk.
Then they start charging for each individual salad extra which were free.
Profit.
The other wonderful thing about this is how the food looks versus is it safe to eat. The whole idea with Subway was “Eat Fresh”. They don’t even use the word “Fresh” on those stickers.
Subway was one of the very few fast food places I still used for a treat every now and again because there isn’t a salad extra I don’t like so I get everything and extra jalapenos which they don’t charge for. Sadly if this is the case I won’t be using them anymore.
I’m still asking for extra everything.. £9 for a sub. I’m getting everything
Because they put less stuff in your sandwich and think you’re too stupid to notice but also want to hide it.
An Italian BMT used to be 4 slices of ham, 6 salami, 6 pepperoni but now they always skimp you on it. Enshitification at its best, we get less, and it costs more.
Subway is so disappointing these days, used to have tons of veggie options, now we get that nasty ass patty. Imagine paying a fiver for that.
I am not keen on this because it prevents me seeing the quality of the toppings before I order them. There have been plenty of times I’ve looked at the state of a particular vegetable and thought “yuck I’ll skip that today”.
So you can’t see how rancid they are
Ah so you can’t see how badly they’ve cross contaminated the veg choices with meat as they’re sloppily adding ingredients.
No matter what you get from there it all just tastes the fucking same anyway.
To get people to order from the menu and have less control probably. Which kinda goes against the whole “subway, your way” dynamic
But at least it might stop people getting to the counter and going “errrr can I have errr” before taking 20 minutes looking thru the glass at the options.
To hide the fact they reduced everything to like 3 things…
I still can’t believe they stopped serving ranch! haven’t been since!!
I was called to repair one of these display fridges, many moons ago.
The call out was for the fridge is high temperature.
Got there before it opened, once I got in and had a look I found out that the compressor was fulty and needed replacing.
While I sat and did my report sheet and ordered the new compressor, they put meat into the broken display fridge.
When I returned a week later to fit the new compressor, again, I turned up before they opened.
This time, I noticed that the meat was ALREADY in the display fridge! Left in there from the night before.
While I was fitting the new compressor, I thought “oh silly person yesterdaybforgot to remove the meat. They gonna have to throw that all away now!”
With the new compressor fitted and tested, the fridge was coming down to temperature nicely.
I was still doing my paperwork when they opened and served the first customer using the meat from yesterday.
As I said my goodbyes, they kindly offer me a free sub, I kindly declined.
While I’m sure this level of hygiene is not common in all Subways, it has put me off the brand ever since.
Maybe that’s why they are hiding the ingredients? Because they are disgusting?
Those are sleep masks for when the sandwich artist nods off and needs narcan.
Thought this was really really dumb. It’s because they’re throng to push you to order not at the counter.
Went to one near me the other day and they’ve put in those big ordering screens like McDonald’s. Staff kept trying to make me use it but it was such a hassle when all I wanted was a normal sub. I had to keep asking until the guy finally gave in and actually made it at the counter. Can’t see why Subway of all places thinks this works—half the point is being able to point at the bread, veg, and sauce as you go.
The whole point of subway is that they make the sub on demand, and so that you can ask for less or more of certain ingredients to have it your way. This is why I’ve never ordered it through an app for pickup or delivery, and I’d never order it through a place that forces you to use a kiosk… anyway they’re subs are £9+ which is insane.
They want you to use the order kiosk! Which is stupid imo, it doesn’t work well with something that is supposed to be customisable “have it your way!”.
This is alos why they have now started advertising sandwiches with all the fillings and sauces selected!
I used to regularly get a subway, I’ve had one in about 2 years and my son gets one bought by grandparents a couple times a year which is why I know about the changes.
I have slowly stopped going for McDonalds, Subway and takeaways in general as quality has went down while prices go up!
So they don’t have to keep the product visually appealing or in date.
i got a foot lond veggie delight and they used 4 small triangles of cheese !! by the time they had toasted it, there was fuck all left !!
You are much less likely to add items, if you do not know what items are even available. Subway seems to have went to the penny pinching extreme lately, it has been a long downfall but losing black olives were the final straw!!!

Dunno.
Ask the folks behind the counter, maybe? They’ll probably know.
Probably because someone decided it was faster, easier and just as tasty

Covered in spiders. It’s all spider infested.
