College football is back — for real now.

The marquee showdown between No. 1 Texas and No. 3 Ohio State got things rolling early as the Buckeyes delivered a defensive clinic against Arch Manning and the Longhorns. The star quarterback finally found a rhythm late in the game, but it wasn’t enough and Ohio State held on for a 14-7 win.

The big stunner of the day came in the afternoon window as Florida State upset No. 9 Alabama to back up the words of QB Thomas Castellanos, who said in the offseason he just didn’t see how the Tide would stop him. Castellanos had a stellar debut for the Seminoles in a 31-17 win, throwing for 152 yards and rushing for 78 more with a TD.
