And…
So many variables to this that you can’t just reliably say it’s because they’re non UK citizens that they earn more. They may do a degree that translates to a better paid job. It could be that they have to pay more for tuition they fore more likely to put in more “effort” and gain a first.
In my experience with law at least, the foreign graduates are normally a lot more in demand due to the ability to speak multiple languages whereas British graduates only really speak English
Work harder then….lazy fkrs
I mean obviously
– it only includes the students who stay… Those who can’t get a job probably go home.
– those traveling to the UK are likely going to main unis they are less likely to degrees from less prestigious uni. Like would you move to the US to go to Yale yes… Would you move to go to some small community collage unlikely.
– they are more likely doing stem subjects.
– they are more likely from rich privately educated background they generally do better.
So all is going to labours plan.
Asians and Africans don’t want to do mickey mouse degrees.
The Shiteograph again , the paper for racists who don’t think they are
I already see two factors that affect this salary disparity. First, foreign students predominantly do a posgrad degree here and, second, try to get a job offer in London to meet salary threshold criteria for skilled visas. Not mentioning personal aspects like a mindset of starting a new life in another country.
Not a surprise. Unis can cost 20-30k a year for foreign students. No Mickey Mouse degrees.
Where’s that image of the plane with bullet holes demonstrating survivorship bias?
International graduates with 5 years experience are literally not granted a work visa if their salary is below £38.7k so they are forced to work hard and find jobs in well paying industries such as finance or tech. Anyone who doesn’t leaves the country. It’s also worth mentioning that there is a substantial cost towards sponsoring a foreign worker which again filters out ‘less desirable’ international students as no employer is willing to sponsor a weak foreign candidate over a British one. As a result this analysis is done on a biased sample set for foreign students and it will always be biased.
There are far more interesting questions to ask with this data set, such as the difference in median salaries between British graduates, EU grads and Non-EU grades per industry/field. If possible show a histogram/distribution graph showing the salaries distribution per industry which gives a more interesting diagram to interpret.
I’m surprised that this is the standard that the Telegraph upholds for their ‘senior data journalist’. I shouldn’t be surprised that it’s all to push some agenda.
Such a rage baiting headline. 🥴😴
