Ah yes, an article from July 2, 2021. What a current and topical meme!
You guys just can’t get enough of “nuclear good, Germany bad”, huh?
Oooh but le scary green goo from le Simpsons
It’s a question of allocating EU fonds. And Sugar Daddy Germoney said it’s money is not going to glowing sticks. Case efficiently closed.
Irish Nuclear Power station when ?
Don’t look at the terrible finances associated with nuclear.
It makes sense if you recognise that the EU uses “renewable” and not “green” in their classifications.
Uranium is not renewable, there is a finite amount we can import from Niger. No matter how environmentally friendly it is, it’s literally not renewable
I am not opposed to nuclear, but I am also not in favour of going back to it at this point. But “it can be safely contained” is nonsense if to this day we don’t even have a single permanent storage facility on the planet
Sooo waste isn’t a problem and we just do it like in the good old times and throw everything into the sea?
I feel like leakage out of rusty waste containers would explain some things about the dutch…
Someone hasnt read Foundation. Keep your tech priest enslavement to yourself. They already had one reformation, they dont need another.
*yawn*
that boat has sailed. get over it.
Like you got over shutting down your nuclear power by 1990.
Are you stuck in the 60s?
In school they taught us that nuclear wasn’t a good option but I don’t remember why, I was 14 and havent touched that subject since then
Sorry bro, if Germany was any good at managing energy it wouldn’t have found itself into a 2 year long recession because of it
I’ll follow the country with the cheapest, cleanest energy in the continent over the country that spent half a trillion euros to pollute as much as Poland
I am unsurprised by the stupidity of germans in the comments, “german engineering” truly is a myth
What have we figured a permanent way to dispose of it? Im all for arguing its worth it, sure beats depending on non EU countries, but last time i checked we couldnt even recycle all of it. We just put it in concrete and bury the problem.
STOP IT mkay.
Their salt mines are already full, what are they supposed to do ?
Man, even Albania does 100% renewable energy. What’s with this clinging to fallout themed power plants?
Is it green? Mayhaps, certainly though when looking at the traditional depiction of the colour of nuclear power, radiation, or uranium.
Is it renewable? Not really. It still relies on digging a diggy diggy hole and extract minerals, just to then burn them.
Is it environmentally clean? Debatable, But also not really. The radiation from used up nuclear fuel rods lingers for aeons, the radiation leaks into the earth and water if not properly disposed of, and knowing that nobody really wants to have the nuclear waste depots. (Just like the King of Bavaria (Maggus Söder) advocates for nuclear power plants in Germany, but strongly rejects building them or the waste depots in Bavaria; He goofing, but not utterly stoohpid.)
And as far as I am aware, there is no sustainable way of reusing the used up fuel rods so far. There is research regarding that, I believe, but no useful solution yet.
Additionally there is no way of reintegrating the nuclear waste into the environmental system either, from what I know. It’s not going to rot in the ground and turn into new and exploitable uranium deposits. It’s not going to flow down river into the sea or the oceans just to dissipate into the air to form clouds that move landinwards and rain down in the mountains. It’s not part of the air cycle, creating winds that can be used to power turbines. Arguably so, photovoltaic power is not renewable either, as it is only being exploited from the sun; that one however is arriving on earth either way, it’s not specifically made to get power.
In conclusion, I as a non-representative German, am in accordance with the german government in regards to not classifying nuclear energy as green, renewable or environmentally clean.
I will however say, that I much rather have more nuclear power plants so that we can get rid of the even worse coal, gas and oil power plants. Sadly though, simply reactivating the shut down german power plants is not profitable, doesn’t work just in an instant, and would also make us heavily dependent on Ruzzia again, as they have the monopoly on uranium and plutonium refineries, if I am not mistaken.
And just building new plants is not profitable either, see Olkiluoto (due to the constructors going bankrupt the finnish nuclear power is being paid by — the French with their taxes, so that’s a dub), Flamonville, and Hinkley Point (even Elon Musk could build and run only one of those). Thus the nuclear power itself is not even cheaper than renewable energy in the first place. Unless it is heavily subsidised by the government.
Tl;dr: Nuclear energy is not green renewable or cheap, it stinks, but it stinks less than coal, gas or oil. Sadly Germany decided to get rid of them instead of the coal power plants, so now we stink too.
Look. I know all the benefits nuclear energy has. I also know how theoretically safe it is nowadays.
One plant still almost singlehandedly destroyed Europe and the remains have to be contained like they are a keter SCP.
You must ALWAYS account for human error and in today’s Europe, with all the corruption, half assing and nepotism? Nothing you say will convince me that the perfect storm of corruption, corner cutting and ineptitude that caused the Chernobyl catastrophe won’t happen again.
Even if it was impossible for a cheapskate minister of something or other in need of a new Yacht and a panicking manager to cause a localized apocalypse again, consider this:
Nuclear Plants, are perfect targets for terrorist and/or drone attacks. Take out any other kind of energy plant, you cause a black out. Blast the core of a nuclear power plant open… I’ll let you finish that thought and decide for yourself if you wanna have Mr. Atom as your neighbor.

Yop, sorry guys, my countrymen are imbecile.

Nuclear energy is just expensive and inefficient

It’s “green” if you consider the glow of the waste left over

Remember the 90′ when everyone advocating for nuclear was called a lobbist?
Not the stupid nuklear bs again. You do nuklear until you’re bankrupt
People are just stupid and they really love fear farming.
Clean? Wonder why they have to extract steel from derelict ships for some applications.
well in some villages close to my home people still can’t collect mushrooms because chernobyl rain.
while yes it was a clusterfuck and just human fault times three, it understandibly still makes people not want nuclear.
