Ukrainian warship sunk by naval drone, killing 2 crew members • FRANCE 24 English

The Symphopal, a Ukrainian intelligence ship, was at the mouth of the Danube River. This footage of the vessel was filmed by a camera on a Russian naval drone loaded with explosives just moments before it hit the hull of the ship. On board, several sailors can be seen, one of whom appeared to notice the threat just before the explosion, which sank the vessel. Moscow claims this was its first successful drone boat attack, but such a raid remains rare as Russia has few naval drones in the Black Sea. The attack on the ship took place during the night between Wednesday and Thursday. The Ukrainian Navy spokesperson has confirmed the losses of the Sinfur Opople, announcing two deaths and several missing. This attack did indeed take place, but the good news is that most of the crew are safe and sound. This type of ship usually carries around 30 sailors for various strategic missions. The Symphfole is a Ukrainian ship dedicated to intelligence gathering. It collects information, radio data, and radar operations and possibly taps into the remote control system of a drone sent to Ukraine. Ukraine also uses many naval surface drones like this one. These are vessels that operate on the surface of the water without a crew on board. For the time being, the Russian forces have not disclosed which drone was used to attack the Synthropyl.

Russia announced that it had destroyed the Ukrainian Navy’s Simferopol, a medium reconnaissance ship, using a naval drone at the mouth of the River Danube. The Ukrainian Navy confirmed the incident, reporting casualties among the crew. Liza Kaminov tells us more.
