A car fire on Interstate 280 near Canada College ignited a 10-acre vegetation on both sides of the freeway this afternoon (Aug. 30), according to CalFire’s CZU San Mateo-Santa Cruz Unit.
CalFire reported at about 7 p.m. it has stopped forward progress of the blaze and evacuations are not expected.
San Mateo County Fire reports that the fire is being fought by least 15 engines, two water tenders, multiple fixed wing, one helicopter, and a firefighter hand crew and a dozer.
No injuries were reported. No time estimate has been given for reopening the freeway.
