The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has stated that Russia’s spring-summer offensive campaign of 2025 concluded without achieving significant results.

According to the statement, Russian forces failed to gain full control over any major Ukrainian city during the campaign. At the same time, Ukrainian Defense Forces inflicted heavy losses on the invading army.

Since the beginning of 2025, Russia has lost nearly 210,000 troops killed and wounded in battles across Luhansk, Donetsk, and Kharkiv regions, along with thousands of units of military equipment.

Reported destroyed and damaged assets include more than 2,100 armored vehicles, over 1,200 tanks, more than 7,300 artillery systems, and 157 multiple rocket launchers.

In the operational zone of the Russian “Kursk” grouping, Ukrainian forces eliminated more than 19,000 enemy personnel and wounded over 25,000.

Active operations continue in Sumy region, where the Defense Forces have liberated the settlements of Kindrativka and Andriivka and are pushing Russian troops out of other border areas.

The General Staff underlined that Russian claims about territorial control and “security zones” in Sumy and Kharkiv regions are overstated and intended to mask setbacks.

The only confirmed outcome, Ukrainian officials noted, is Russia’s overall losses, which exceed 291,000 killed and wounded since the start of the year. They also pointed to the mass awarding of 120,000 Russian soldiers as an indirect indication of the scale of casualties.

Russian military reports also referenced “the destruction of Ukraine’s missile industry” and “precision strikes on military targets.” The Ukrainian General Staff rejected these assertions, describing them as an attempt to disguise indiscriminate strikes on civilian areas.

“The final report of General Valery Gerasimov is an example of inflated claims and misrepresentation. Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold the front, inflict losses on the occupiers, and demonstrate that Russia’s spring-summer offensive of 2025 has not achieved its objectives,” the General Staff stated.

Earlier on August 12, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia is losing about 1,000 soldiers a day—three times more than Ukraine’s own daily losses—while noting that Moscow holds manpower and artillery advantages but faces mounting casualties.
