Meghan Markle revealed quite a lot on Season 2 of With Love, Meghan – including that Prince Harry said “I love you” first. But on the same day as her Netflix show dropped, so did the latest episode of The Circuit with Emily Chang, featuring Meghan as a guest; and that also delivered its fair share of anecdotes!

In the conversation, Meghan and Emily touched on a number of different topics – many of which fans would recognize, since Meghan has mentioned them before – including her past life as a working royal. And naturally, the royal dress code came up…

Meghan Markle Wasn’t A Fan Of Wearing ‘Nude Pantyhose’

“Is there an inherent tension in trying to be relatable while also being a duchess?” Emily asked, which is when the Duchess of Sussex, 44, then reflected on her past royal life.

“It was different several years ago where I couldn’t be as vocal,” Meghan replied, and then went into detail about a “silly” and “inauthentic” royal rule that she wasn’t a fan of, telling Chang: “I had to wear nude pantyhose all the time.”

“Let’s be honest, that was not very myself. I hadn’t seen pantyhose since the ’80s, when they came in the little egg? That felt a little bit inauthentic, but that’s a silly example,” the mom-of-two continued.

The As Ever founder added: “But it is an example of when you’re able to dress the way you wanna dress and you’re able to say the things that are true and you’re able to show up in the space really organically and authentically, that’s being comfortable in your own skin.”

Meghan Markle Talks About The Royal Dress Code

The former Suits actress has opened up about royal protocol on several occasions, including on the Netflix Harry & Meghan docuseries that premiered back in 2022. She explained how she was expected to dress when she was a working royal: i.e., modestly, and in muted colors to not overshadow more senior royals.

Touching on the royal sartorial rules and explaining why she wore a lot of nude and beige tones, Meghan said at the time: “Most of the time that I was in the U.K., I rarely wore color. There was thought in that. To my understanding, you can’t ever wear the same color as Her Majesty if there’s a group event, but then you also shouldn’t be wearing the same color as one of the other, more senior members of the family.”

She went on: “So I was like, well what’s a color that they’ll probably never wear? Camel? Beige? White? So, I wore a lot of muted tones, but it also was so I could just blend in. Like, I’m not trying to stand out here. So there’s no version of me joining this family and trying to not do everything I could to fit in. I don’t want to embarrass the family.”
