The proposal, known as the CSAM regulation, promoted by Denmark in the EU would significantly reduce the protection of EU citizens' private communications. According to the position of the Finnish Parliamentary Committee, Finland still considers it very important to create an EU-level legal framework that will enhance the detection, reporting and elimination of sexual abuse against children in the EU. However, Finland cannot support the latest compromise proposal because it includes an identification article that has been found to be problematic from a constitutional perspective, says a recent statement from the Government of Finland.

This is brilliant news and I do hope few others join as well.
We can’t endlesly give up privacy, because 0.something % of the population are pedofiles. Technology evolves and police has to come up more clever ways of fighting crime. Currently they want an easy way on the expense of normal people.
Did I hear SCAM regulation? I think I did..
Crossposted to /r/Europeanunion. Hope you don’t mind.
When the people in ~power want to take privacy safety away from everybody because few bad apples it’s never good. Just too many lobbyists been making the noise about “think of the children!” Yes, they need safety, but you can’t increase it by taking safety away from everyone.
This issue is confusing to me sometimes. While we give our data to third party companies in the US like Google, why can’t we give it to our own governments which we can directly influence in the ballot box? I’m thinking this law could also be applied to Islamic extremists or the radical right. But then there are legitimate concerns about privacy and its abuse by the government. There must be some kind of compromise or ‘third way’, if the EU could draft like that then it would be much easier to accept.
Sanity from our elected representatives! Good news!
Good 👍
As an thoroughly embarrassed Dane, thank you!
Good news and common sense. Thank you!
Let’s hope others join, influential people and money behind this. Peter Thiel would love to soften privacy laws.
Absolutely excellent! The Big Brother Chat Control must be stopped!
Thank goodness
It is kind of funny that this wouldn’t apply to people in positions of power, yet those people would be more likely to abuse children given the power they hold, and I feel like child abuse would just increase among those ranks if this went through
