In the third round of EuroBasket in Katowice, Poland defeated Iceland 84-75 in Group D action.
Poland started the game stronger, going on a 12–3 run in the first four minutes. However, Iceland quickly responded, cutting the deficit to just two points with a layup from Gunnarsson. Both teams then struggled with missed shots until Zolnieriewicz closed the first quarter from the free-throw line (19–16).

Poland came out strong in the second quarter, building a seven-point lead. Hermannsson and Hlinason responded with five straight points to bring Iceland back within two. Poland then went on a huge run, restoring a nine-point advantage by halftime (41–32).

Poland came out strong in the second half, and with a three-pointer from Mateusz Ponitka, quickly built a 14-point lead, which they consistently maintained throughout the period. Iceland managed to cut the deficit to just eight points with contributions from Palsson and Hlinason. However, Jordan Loyd’s free throws extended Poland’s lead to 10 points by the end of the third quarter.
Iceland started the final quarter impressively, cutting the deficit to just two points with a three-pointer from Fridriksson, who kept Iceland within striking distance. After a three from Martin Hermannsson, Iceland was down by only one. Hlinason then completely flipped the game, giving Iceland the lead after trailing by 16 points. Fridriksson continued to extend Iceland’s advantage.
However, Laczynski and Olejniczak scored five points to swing the lead back to Poland. An unsportsmanlike foul added a three-point advantage for Poland, followed by a foul on Jordan Loyd on a three-point attempt and a technical foul, which extended Poland’s lead to six points and sealed the victory.
The top scorer for Poland was Jordan Loyd with 26 points. For Iceland, Tryggvi Hlinason led with 21 points.
With this win, Poland improved to a 3-0 record and sits at the top of the standings, while Iceland goes to 0-3 and now holds last place.
In the next round, Poland will face France, while Israel will take on Slovenia.

EuroBasket 2025 – Rosters of all national teams
EuroBasket 2025, starting on August 27, will be the central topic of discussion in the coming period, alongside basketball transfers in Europe and worldwide.
National team gatherings across the Old Continent have already begun, and coaches have announced extended player lists, with only 12 players from each team set to secure their plane tickets for EuroBasket 2025.
EuroBasket 2025 will be hosted by four countries – Cyprus, Poland, Finland, and Latvia.
The final phase of the competition, meaning all national team matches after the group stage, will be played in Latvia, specifically in Riga, with the final scheduled for September 14.
