Latest | Sinn Féin calls for ‘urgent’ meeting with PSNI after intimidation of Catholic families by West Belfast UDA
Sinn Féin’s John Finucane has said that the intimidation of Catholic families in north Belfast is “outrageous and totally unacceptable”.
The North Belfast MP was speaking after reports that the West Belfast UDA had pulled out of a deal to stop attacks on a mixed housing development.
It is understood four Catholic families living in the estate have been told to leave immediately.
He said that “Sinn Féin will be seeking an urgent meeting with police to discuss the response to this intimidation".
Mr Finucane added: “Everyone must stand against this criminality. We need to see and hear a united political response to this sectarian intimidation including from unionist representatives.
“This is not an isolated issue, and it requires all political parties and relevant agencies to stand together, face it down, and provide full support to the victims.
“Residents have the right to live safely, free from intimidation and violence."

On Sunday, it was revealed that the West Belfast UDA has backed out of an agreement intended to prevent further attacks on a mixed housing development.
Earlier, an arrangement had been negotiated between the paramilitary group and a mediator acting on behalf of residents at Annalee and Alloa Streets, located in the Oldpark area of North Belfast.
In May, several homes occupied by Catholic families were targeted by masked attackers, resulting in smashed windows and damaged vehicles.
After talks with a senior UDA member and a community representative, it was decided that residents would be given time to relocate without the threat of further violence.
However, this agreement has now been overturned at the directive of a high-ranking figure within the group.

PSNI🤜🏼🤛🏼UDA
As a service the PSNI is generally good day to day for low level crime. But when it comes to loyalist gangs, they turn a blind eye to it. Membership of these groups have exploded under the PSNIs watch.
My own hunch is that many senior leadership of the PSNI grew up in loyalist areas and think a gentle gentle approach is the best way to keep things under control, rather than actively policing those they are associated with.
>West Belfast UDA had pulled out of a deal to stop attacks
Criminal organisation makes deal not to do criminal things is a fuckin mad thing to try and get your head around when prisons exist.
Seeing as Labour are currently being so ‘tough’ on terrorism, one would expect strong words, not just from Hilary Benn, but also Starmer and Cooper.
I’m not holding my breath
Loyalists are a fucking disgrace to humanity
History repeats itself, if no one learns from it’s mistakes
I’m sure the local “community safety” groups that are roaming around NI will make short work of this! /S
Be interesting to see what sinn pain actually do for them! I went to them last year in tears begging for help, trapped in uda loyalist area where me and my children are isolated and treated like dirt and can’t talk to anyone or smile, get hurled abuse and was threatened to be bombed out years ago if i didnt keep my head down. I’m scared every day because of the power stunts they pull. Know of 3 others in same situations who abandoned their home or were forced out and are STILL homeless in shelters or taking over family living room sofas with their children! When will these situations be taken seriously. What about vulnerable young families😫
When can we expect the protests against this intimidation of women and children?
Oh wait, this shower of cunts are the same ones intimidating ethnic minorities also.
Honestly this has gone far too long. It’s 2025 and a blind eye is still turned towards Loyalist terrorists and criminal gangs. Why has the PSNI not eradicated this threat??
Where’s the rest of the shite bags speaking out and demanding meetings? Their silence is a disgrace
Protestant homes along Cliftonpark Avenue, & Children within Old Park, Girdwood Hub, have been attacked for years here.
The people of Oldpark have been trying to get new houses for decades, & when they then got them, outside nationalist dominated bodies then got involved & made/created this problem.
These houses were built on the Protestants side of the North Belfast Peace Wall, not a mixed area, & then those bodies dictated, without consultation of the residents, who have been tortured for yrs, that a percentage of the homes/residents HAD to be Catholics, something that was never going to bring peace & harmony to the area, yet would bring them the propaganda they so sinisterly wanted, & that’s the disgusting issue here too.
No one should be intimidated out of their homes, however this is a sinisterly made problem/issue that is now getting the attention it was always going to get.
