At Auckland Airport, multiple flights have been cancelled and delayed, including Air New Zealand’s NZ110 and Singapore Airlines’ SQ4253 to Sydney, both scheduled for 1 September at 1:55 PM, with estimated departure times unchanged. Similarly, flights NZ4379 and NZ678 to Dunedin, scheduled for 31 August at 9:15 PM, have also been canceled. Over at Queenstown Airport, Air New Zealand’s NZ638 to Auckland, scheduled for 1 September at 7:00 AM, has been canceled. Christchurch Airport has faced cancellations as well, with both Air New Zealand’s NZ5765 and Qantas Airways’ QF8589 flights to New Plymouth, scheduled for Monday at 1:10 PM, being affected, with the estimated departure time adjusted to 10:38 AM. At New Plymouth Airport, both Air New Zealand’s NZ5765 and Qantas Airways’ QF8589 to Christchurch, scheduled for 1 September at 11:40 AM, have been canceled.
Yesterday due to high winds at Auckland Airport, multiple flight cancellations were reported, affecting both departures and arrivals. Air New Zealand confirmed the cancellation of 58 flights, and Auckland Airport announced a total of 63 domestic flights were canceled, alongside two international flights. Passengers took to social media to express their frustration with delays in disembarking and baggage retrieval, as ground crews were unable to work safely in winds exceeding 74 km/h. Some passengers reported being delayed for up to four hours before being held on the tarmac for over an hour after arriving in Auckland. On Monday morning, Auckland Airport confirmed that safety concerns had prevented ground crews from working during much of the period when winds gusted up to 115 km/h. As a result, significant delays occurred in the offboarding of passengers and baggage. The airport assured travelers that operations had resumed and advised them to check for any updates from their respective airlines due to the rebooking process for disrupted flights. Customers were thanked for their patience during the delays.

On August 31, 2025, Jetstar was fined NZD 2.25 million by the Auckland District Court for misleading nearly 100,000 customers about their compensation rights for flight delays and cancellations between January 2022 and March 2024. The airline had informed passengers that compensation was limited under certain conditions, such as only being available if the airport was not their home airport or more than 15 km away, which is contrary to New Zealand’s aviation laws. The airline also failed to provide overnight accommodation to passengers entitled to it, and many of the issues were attributed to a lack of experienced staff following COVID-19 layoffs. Despite this, as of September 1, 2025, there have been no reports of Jetstar flight cancellations to or from New Zealand, and passengers affected by the misleading practices are encouraged to contact Jetstar or the New Zealand Commerce Commission for assistance with their compensation claims.
