  7. This is next-level corruption. Howard Lutnick, the current Commerce Secretary, is a key figure in pushing for these tariffs. At the same time, his sons who are now running his old company, Cantor Fitzgerald, are creating a financial product to profit from the tariffs.

    The scheme works like this:
    1. Small businesses get hit with massive tariffs that they can’t afford to wait years to get back through the courts.

    2. Cantor Fitzgerald offers to buy their right to a future refund for a small percentage of the value (around 20-30 cents on the dollar).

    3. If a court overturns the tariffs, Cantor Fitzgerald gets the full refund from the government, making a huge profit.

    Essentially, the Lutnicks are profiting from a policy that their family is directly involved in creating, while simultaneously taking advantage of the financial desperation it causes for other businesses. It’s a textbook case of profiting from the public trust, and is absolutely disgusting

  8. Guessing that’s the real reason companies said market conditions were the reason for price increases instead of tariffs.

    If they said tariffs, they have to pay customers back. Market conditions mean they keep the tax they passed on to consumers.

  13. Zero chance any of that money gets returned. Just like there is zero chance these tariffs are getting reversed. Just like they didn’t go away the first time after Trump left. China still paid the tariffs after Biden took over.

  28. What I still don’t understand is how your orange guy is able to misuse these presidential orders. I understand, they are useful if something has to be fast – like if the country being attacked, but… there is no way he should be able to call it an emergency and change tariffs, if nothing has happened/changed in the recent past and use it as an excuse for a quick reaction.

  30. I wonder if the de minimis exemption will be reinstated at some level. Even $100 instead of $800 would suit me.
