Rockwell Automation Press Release

Latin America has made significant progress in gender equality; however, there are still opportunities to strengthen female participation in leadership roles, especially in technical and industrial sectors. According to the World Economic Forum, in 2024, women held 36.4% of senior leadership positions in the region. This data underscores the importance of continuing to promote policies and actions that foster equitable and sustained representation at all organizational levels.

In this context, the appointment of Luisa Gómez as Regional Director for Andean and Caribbean at Rockwell Automation marks a significant step toward greater female representation in the technology industry. She is the first woman to hold this position in Latin America within the company, a fact that is notable both for her professional profile and the structural context in which it takes place.

Gómez is an electronics engineer graduated from the Universidad Autónoma de Occidente (Colombia) with more than 15 years of experience in commercial and strategic leadership. Since joining Rockwell Automation in 2010, she has held various positions of responsibility in the region, including leading the heavy industry team in Mexico for the past three years. “Being the first woman in this position represents an important step toward a more equitable and inclusive industry. I am committed to continuing to create spaces for more women to develop and lead in the technology sector,” she stated.

Diversity and digital transformation

Female representation in strategic roles within sectors such as automation and digital transformation still faces significant challenges. Factors such as gender stereotypes, unequal access to technical training, and the limited visibility of female role models have influenced this reality. In this context, Gómez plans to continue strengthening internal policies that promote equity both within and outside the organization. “In my role, I will continue promoting mentoring programs, the visibility of diverse teams, and safe spaces that enable professional development. Diversity is not just a value. It is a key condition for innovation,” she stated.

During his tenure, he will focus on leading Rockwell Automation’s regional strategy, with an emphasis on strategic sectors such as mining, oil and gas, food and beverage, and manufacturing. These sectors face significant challenges in terms of digital infrastructure, specialized talent, and technology adoption.

“Many companies still face challenges integrating emerging technologies into traditional operating environments. Our goal is to act as strategic partners, facilitating technological adoption processes that have a real impact on productivity and sustainability,” he explained.

Sustainability will be another key focus, with initiatives focused on resource optimization, emissions reduction, and energy efficiency. Through solutions such as smart monitoring, process control, and predictive maintenance, automation is positioned as a key enabler in the transition toward more responsible production models.

Although countries like Colombia have made progress in digitalization, particularly in sectors such as energy, food, and manufacturing, there are still opportunities to improve systems integration, data analysis, and real-time decision-making. “Technology is an enabler, but its true value emerges when combined with diverse human capabilities and a long-term vision. The transformation must be both digital and cultural,” Gómez concluded.
