Good on them, things are quite shit now and it’s good to see people take it into their own hands to fix it
Can’t speak for the TOCs but network rail are definitely rattled to say the least. Multiple emails, a video email, a letter sent to everyone and flyers at all the depots.
Spent 38k just on the letters.
Plus recent comments from both the CEO and director of communications haven’t gone down well with the staff.
May 24th is the end date for the ballot and if returned with yes on both counts likely start strike action in June. Hopefully attempt work to rule first right enough.
Good news, it will send a clear message to the gov. Get inflation under control or else! The rise of the unions is necessary with this gov.
I’ll continue to WFH and drive wherever possible, thanks.
I’ve worked for London Underground for 22 years. I’ve never, ever known it this bad. Morale is non existent, cuts everywhere, everything is either falling apart or not working.
It’s wholly down to the government and Boris trying to “win” what ever game he tried whilst mayor. The only people that suffer are the customers. Exactly the same on national rail.
Fuck the tories.
I like how five years ago everybody was calling for the RMT and Aslef to be dismantled because they’d rather blame the unions than every corporate suit and corrupt Tory official responsible for degrading our railway network.
And now, with the cost of living at an all time high, we now realise why trade unions are important.
This subreddit is so fucking out of touch with the real world.
Given how shit rail service (and other public transport) is becoming even without strikes, now is probably a good time to ditch public transport and get a car.
Here’s a hot take: If loads of people now work from home and the numbers using trains have reduced massively, maybe we shouldn’t be spedning as much public money on railways?

Lets face it, it will be johnny taxpayer who foota any bill to pay RMT members more money because it isn’t as if the rail companies are actually making loads.

Between low profit margins for the company owners and the public getting shafted on ticket prices and subsdies too, the actual emplyees are the ONLY people already doing well out of the Uk railways.
Train tickets are already too expensive. It’ll be ticket prices going up or tax payer funded. I don’t suppose the execs will take a pay cut
Anyone know why it seems that rail workers always strike whereas people stuck in min wage customer service roles never do this?
I spoke with people when I worked at a bank and they couldn’t give a fuck they were getting paid pennies. They wouldn’t do anything about it.
