Hi there! I apologize if this is not the place to ask this, but I am not sure where else to go. I have been looking for a specific fabric pattern for over a year. It is extremely sentimental to me because it was used to make an outfit for my daughter who passed away. Thanks to some sleuths on this site, I was able to find some for sale. I have only been able to find it on one site. The issue, though, is that it is for sale locally in a shop in Suinula. They ship locally within Finland or in the EU. I live in the north of the United States. Because of everything happening in the US, it is even harder than it would’ve been in past years(please don’t get me started, just know I don’t agree with our government). I am wondering if it would be appropriate to send a message to the email listed on the site. I know many people in Finland speak English, but do not want to assume and offend anyone since the site is in Finnish. Secondly, I’m wondering if this is something that is feasible. If the seller decides to ship it to me (which I will pay extra for of course) does the Finnish post system send globally from small towns like this? If anyone could give me any information, it would be so greatly appreciated as I have no idea where to start. Thanks!
I’ve included the picture of the fabric just so you all can see it if you’d like to 🙂

If the seller ships globally you have no problems other than customs fees. If they won’t, send me a message. I would be willing to help out to get this fabric to you.
Edit: it’s perfectly fine for you to ask the seller in English! If they don’t understand it, they should be able to use a translator online.
It doesn’t hurt to ask. There is no reason for them to feel offended from a polite request, even when it is in English.
Feasibility, well, that is a though one. Currently (since last week?) Finnish Post does not accept any goods bound to US, because… well, you know. No-one knows if that lasts for a week or half a year. Otherwise destination does not matter as long as it is served by USPS.
Courier companies could be an option, but many sellers won’t bother, as those can mean extra work.
Commercial freight services to the USA have been suspended:

Note that the Finnish postal service Posti, as well as many others in Europe, have recently stopped all shipments to the US due to issues related to the tariffs.
Because of that, it is possible that the services they use do not currently allow shipping to the US, and it also makes it harder for individuals to ship things themselves.
How much do you need of it?
Sorry for your loss.
If there is a shipping problem, you could look for a chain. Someone sends the fabric from Finland to somewhere where they can post it to the US. Many people have relatives all over the world, so would think it would somehow be possible.
In most cases they likely wouldn’t bother but if you explain the situation and your reasons I’d be surprised if they couldn’t make an exception. As others have stated shipping to USA isn’t possible at the moment but it wont last forever. Might aswell open the communications while waiting things to normalize. They might even put a lenght of cloth aside for you. That’s what I’d do atleast.
I’m so sorry for your loss.
If you want to, I can order the fabric home to me to wait until we get information on the postal services, and ship it to you once everything is solved. I wouldn’t mind, the fabric doesn’t take a lot of space. No extra fees, if you’d kindly only pay the fabric + postal.
Hello, sorry for your loss. I can order to within Finland and then post to yourself from the UK at the end of the month? Would just need the cost of the fabric and posting covered 🙂
(1) You may also try to translate your email into Finnish (AI or even ask somebody here)
(2) With all shipments from Finland to the USA being suspended, your best chances are probably to find smb flying from Finland to the US so they could get your fabric in their luggage (this is a grey zone for customs, but should be okay as long as it is not for sale)
Oh I saw you question earlier. So sorry for your loss. I do hope you find a solution with all the postal mess going on right now.
