Czech Republic vs Latvia Preview
The Czech Republic was, for a long time, a solid European team that occasionally managed to cause trouble for stronger opponents. However, as the years passed and injuries started to take their toll on Jan Vesely and Tomas Satoransky, the national team’s results gradually declined. Heading into this EuroBasket without either of those two, it was immediately clear the team would struggle, especially since no one has truly stepped up to replace them.
Still, few expected the Czech Republic to look quite this helpless — not just against top-tier teams, but also against lower-ranked sides like Portugal and Estonia. They lost both of those games without ever really looking like they had a chance to win. So defeats to Turkey and Serbia came as no surprise. Many hoped that Vit Krejci could inject new energy into this team, but the NBA player has underwhelmed on every level and shown that he either lacks the quality of Satoransky and Vesely, or simply can’t impact the game the way they did. It’s no surprise, then, that heading into the final round, the Czech Republic has no chance of advancing.
Latvia, one of the EuroBasket co-hosts, entered the tournament with high ambitions — and rightfully so. At the last FIBA World Cup, they finished fifth, even without their best player Kristaps Porzingis, and were just one shot away from reaching the semifinals. Two years later, on home soil, they were expected to push for a medal. However, things haven’t gone entirely to plan — they lost both of their matchups against stronger teams, Turkey and Serbia. As a result, Latvia will enter the Round of 16 from the third position in the group. In their most recent game, they defeated Portugal, which was their second win, following a hard-fought victory over Estonia.
Latvia will need to raise their level of play — and fast — because if they perform the way they have in the group stage, they could find themselves eliminated as early as the Round of 16. Even though Kristaps Porzingis is, on paper, the team’s best player, his current form — particularly his shooting — has been a serious issue. He didn’t hit a single three-pointer until the fourth-round game against Portugal, having missed 14 attempts before that. Another concern is the injury to Arturs Zagars, one of the team’s most important players and a major factor in their offensive rhythm. If he’s unable to continue in the tournament, Latvia could be in real trouble.
Czech Republic vs Latvia H2H
Latvia has won two of the three previous head-to-head matchups.
Injuries and Suspensions
Tomas Satoransky and Jan Vesely are not playing for the Czech Republic at this EuroBasket. Andrejs Grazulis was injured in the game against Serbia and will miss this one as well. Arturs Zagars was also injured in the game against Portugal, and his availability is questionable, while Rodions Kurucs didn’t even part of the team for this tournament due to injury.

Czech Republic vs Latvia Best Betting Tip and Prediction
This is one of the games with no real significance for either team in terms of standings. The Czech Republic is officially eliminated from the tournament, while Latvia is guaranteed to finish third in the group even with a loss. Because of that, we expect both coaches to give more minutes to players who haven’t seen much action so far. We’re likely to see lineups on the court that have never played together before, which could lead to a disjointed game with less fluid basketball. For that reason, we expect the total number of points scored to stay under the set line.
