Lithuania vs Sweden Preview
Lithuania has, so far, managed to shake up Group B and surprise host Finland despite the injury to Rokas Jokubaitis. Their only loss came against favored Germany, but they performed exceptionally by defeating Montenegro and Great Britain—both wins by convincing margins—which sets them up to play a game that will secure second place in Group B and make the Round of 16 draw easier for them.
On this tournament, Lithuania has shown they are a team with both brains and discipline. Coach Kurtinaitis has built the team around the tandem of Jonas Valancunas and Rokas Jokubaitis, and they have already broken some records. They became the team with the most rebounds in a single EuroBasket game, and even more impressive is their record of 35 assists—a feat no one has ever achieved in EuroBasket history. Roles are distributed perfectly; they have players capable of controlling the boards, and with good ball movement, anyone on the team can threaten from beyond the arc, which they demonstrated in all of their wins.
Sweden has so far shown themselves in a very positive way at EuroBasket. Although they have only beaten Great Britain and currently hold a 1-3 record after losses to Finland, Germany, and Montenegro, they still have a chance to advance to the next stage. Perhaps the two most important games to highlight are those against Finland and Montenegro. Against host Finland in the tournament opener, Sweden was in a very good position in the final moments and even led for much of the game, but eventually lost 93-90.
Even against Germany, their resistance was impressive, and in the last matchup against Montenegro, they erased an eight-point deficit by the middle of the third quarter and took a 75-70 lead in the final period, but lacked the strength to go further. Pelle Larson had a strong performance, but Ludvig Hakannson and Simon Birgander struggled, shooting a combined 5/17 from the field. Adding Melwin Pantzar’s 1/7, it’s clear they could not overcome Montenegro.

Injuries and Suspensions
Lithuania has dealt with a large number of withdrawals this summer, some due to personal reasons and others because of injuries. As a result, Domantas Sabonis, Edgaras Ulanovas, Matas Buzelis, Dovydas Giedraitis, Arnas Butkevicius, and Ignas Brazdeikis will not play. Sweden is expected to compete with its full roster.
