  1. Doubt.
I mean, he probably did for the cameras, but [apart from trump’s dementia] this war is what bringing all the shady folks, dictators and war criminals together.

  2. yeah right, just like Trump’s tariffs gonna stop war, modi telling putin to stop is really going to stop the war.

  3. India is one of the founding members of NAM (Non-Alignment Movement) whose core ideology is not to meddle into others’ business and not to align themselves with any single bloc. They did it because they were wary of being bullied into fighting other people’s wars, as that was what happened when the British conscripted so many Indian soldiers in WW2.

India will never cut ties with Russia and do more than this. They will never vote for or against Russia in the UN, they will abstain from all votes.

This is how they have always done things. The average west citizen may feel aggrieved about it but all the policymakers know, and the non-idiotic ones find it fair. This is the reason Trump is the only one barking at India right now.

  4. Modi’s move is classic non-alignment diplomacy. Signal concern, maintain ties and avoid taking sides too overtly. India’s balancing act between Russia and the West has been consistent especially given its energy imports and defense partnerships with Moscow but urging peace publicly, even if symbolic, does shift the optics. It’s a subtle nudge that reinforces India’s role as a potential mediator especially among Global South nations who don’t want to be dragged into bloc politics. Whether Putin listens is another story but the message matters.

Geopolitics aside it’s refreshing to see a leader at least say the quiet part out loud that war needs to end.

  5. “Stop Vladimir”. Modi is cramping Donald’s signature style

  6. They say as they buy more Russian oil, driving the Russian economy to make more war

  7. Yall so negative. It’s in India’s interest that the war stops. Russia and Ukraine are important food producers of the world. It would go a long way to stabilize inflation with the war stopped. India also doesn’t want it to be the excuse Trump uses to attack India. Lets be honest the war plays little role in that. Its his ego.

  8. Modi brokers end of war and wins Nobel Peace price. That would be something!

  9. Who benefits from this war?

    USA, India, China

    Who’s paying for this war?

    Russia, Ukraine, Europe

  10. Did he tell Putin he wouldn’t buy oil anymore due to the tariffs? It could be a big pressure on Russia.

  11. Why do softies insist on trying to reason with bullies.  Don’t they know they get their kicks from such naivety?  Just look at the smile on Putin’s face he can barely stop himself from pissing the floor laughing.

  12. Modi: can you stop the war in Ukraine?

Putin: if I do, our economy goes back up, and I charge you double for the gas

Modi: how about we grab something from the buffet instead of discussing depressing things?

  13. How can he stop when everyone keeps making him invade?!!

  14. I vaguely recall another well known Indian (Gandi) sent a letter to another infamous dictator (Hitler) for him to stop the war.

But I can’t recall if that worked. Can anyone remind me?

  15. Trump will call the Nobel prize guys and threaten to ban Swedish movies from the Academy Awards if he doesn’t get the Nobel Peace Prize this year. They’d be like “suit yourself, Mr. President”.

Meanwhile the foreign affairs personnel be whispering among themselves “so who’s gonna tell the orange dude that it’s Norway and not Sweden!!!”.

  16. Putin on a world tour, after years of relative isolation. All made possible by legitimizing him with that otherwise pointless Alaska meeting.

  17. Um sir people are confused about why you are constantly holding hands…

  18. It’s more complicated than PM Modi making nice with Putin to end the war in Ukraine.

India’s second biggest geopolitical adversary is China, and as Washington DC has sought to deter Chinese aggression it has tried to leverage its relations with New Delhi which so far have been lukewarm at best. With Moscow making strides to improve their relations with India, it deters New Delhi from siding with the United States in any US-Sino conflict (which could come as early as 2027.)

This also strengthens Russia, who can rely less on Beijing to apply international resistance and benefit the Chinese financially who I’m sure will exploit some backdoor economic opportunity that’s not readily apparent.

  19. Yeah right… when u r saving over $12bn in cheap oil imports 😂

  20. Imagine meeting Hitler, shaking his hand and politely asking whether he can stop his blitzkriegs

  21. Trump managed to make India, Cina and Russia allies and didn’t stop the war in Ukraine.
The EU is not trusting the US anymore, NATO is in tatters. Tariffs will soon land on the table of the Americans.

But hey, we owned the libs!

  22. Also trades clothing since they each wear hard to find petite sizes.
