IIRC it was more the discourse of the disastrous Barbara Streisand gig that had MCD sending Boards threatening letters.
Mcd are a shower of bastards.
IIRC this was a whole “thing” on boards.ie in its heyday, with MCD sending letters to the then owners to shut-down any discussion. ~20 years ago and feels like a completely different era of internet.
I can even remember the username of the lad who posted the stuff on boards, he was on the Electric Picnic forum (R.I.P.) too.

Reddit wasn’t really a thing back in 2006. At least not mainstream enough to get the attention of major conglomerates.
That said, Reddit has a rather large legal sector these days, so any attempts to hush-hush bad reviews would be laughed off.
I don’t miss oxegen, high profile acts but everything else sucked
Went to that as a 15 year old, as did most of Naas CBS.
Free camping ticket for watching a driveway for about 3 hours on the Thursday hahaha.
Fishing for drink outside the old Tesco up the town had never been easier, think we each got 3 slabs of cans for about 30 quid.
Simpler times but absolutely mental looking back now
I remember that. I could be wrong but I think what kicked off the discussion was rumours of tents being set on fire.
There was a wider impact, with other discussion boards that weren’t involved taking measures to stay out of the spotlight.
There were so many tent fires on the last night. If they didn’t want people to give recounts of what happened they’re lucky camera phones weren’t around.
I always knew that Oxegen was ruined by scumbags, but I thought they were attendees. I didn’t realise they were managers too.
I was there. It was worse than you imagine. The portaloos and urinal tanks were at the top of a big hill above the camp site. They were not emptied all weekend. Thank all that is good and holy I was with some people who used to be scouts and clocked that immediately. We camped as high up and far from that as we could. And sure enough, by Saturday morning, with no one coming to empty the tanks all weekend, raw sewage was flowing downhill into the camp site. I’d say about 30% of the tents I could see were pitched in human waste by Saturday night.
That’s not even mentioning the tents being set on fire, the hordes of maniacs who lined up and ran and stamped their way across the campsite in a big line trashing and stamping on everything destroying tents and kicking and falling on people inside, and the gangs of pricks going from tent to tent robbing everything inside and pissing on or in people’s tents.
I wouldn’t go to an MCD organised festival again if the tickets and the drinks were free.
I was a mod on boards at the time, and it was going through a massive growth spike. MCD were they-who-shall-not-be-named and one of the founders would often talk about or show their letters at the beers we used to have. Seeing as boards dominated the pre facebook Irish interwebs, we often wondered if banning all talk of MCD events was harming them.
On Reddit they’d probably just pay a content company to downvote any mention of the brand. Happens all the time. Just look at my recent post history 😂
Having worked with MCD on projects I can say that I’m not surprised
Haha I remember this! Back in the day when internet was still a free-for-all type of place, this looked so inapt.
The tent next to us was used for sex until they pulled the cover off, grabbed all the clothes and chucked them around. Poor girl inside was mortified. By Saturday afternoon, it became obvious that it was being used as a toilet, the absolute bang of shite out of it. They lit it on fire Saturday night.
Oxygen became the Dublin ferals day out.
As I recall The actual dispute came off the back of an insulin dependent diabetic getting hassled by staff. Because they were carrying vials and syringes (back in the day insulin hardware was pretty basic!). That person was prominent on boards.ie and wrote about the experience.
It wasn’t just MCD that threatened them. There was (still is I think) a martial arts club in Smithfield Dublin that got slagged off a lot on the Boards.ie martial arts forum. The owner’s response was to threaten legal action, so from that point no more discussion of that club was allowed.
This was the reason I stopped using boards.ie , it felt like they were protecting MCD when there was plenty to voice complaints about .
