Europe: We recognize Palestine.
Israel: Really? Hold on a minute. How about now?
Jesus
They were going to do it anyway they should drop the pretense.
The western world needs to abandon Israel at this point.
“Response”… More like a shitty excuse
An interesting societal observation in all of this is just how ineffective modern day “protesting” is in the face of a nation state that is resolute.
Even disruptive ones lack the prolonged critical negative space to apply extended pressure or the media sway to stay covered for a significant amount of time.
I’ve spoken to Israelis who are very concerned that they are losing the Media War while waging (what began as) a war on terrorism, and asked why.
This. This is why. Bibi is doing no one any favors here, including his own country and its citizens.
Who still thought that that wasn’t always the plan? Why even down play it with “part of”? The plan is to get rid of all Palestinians sovereignty and the Palestinians themselves to boot. Always was for the Israeli right wing.
It looks like Netanyahu and his government allies are considering annexing parts of Area C of the West Bank (possibly the settlements closest to the 1967 borders).
I don’t see the point of this, since those settlements (such as Modi’in Illit) would probably become part of Israel anyway in a peace deal.
The goal is obviously the whole territory eventually. Why not do it all at once? Because as soon as they annex Palestinian populations, they become responsible for them. It’s much easier for them historically to have de facto control over all of the Palestinian territories while avoiding formally annexing land to dodge the responsibility of caring for all those people.
Good, two can play this game.
They really thought they can take unilateral actions without any response? Macron and his buddies need to drop the surprised Pikachu act.
“Israel was always going to do this!’ is cope. Israel’s hand was forced here. With an increasingly hostile international order and the unilateral recognition of Palestine by world powers, Palestine was going to be recognized without Israel’s permission or compromise. Since Israel cannot allow a hostile country to gain an army, weapons, diplomatic power right next to it, its own unilateral action had to be taken to prevent it.
