Brits are world’s biggest video gamers by an extra five days a year

  1. Little over 4 and a half hours a week doesn’t seem that much.
Plus we have a culture where a lot of social things revolve around drinking. If you don’t drink it gets kinda boring after a while. I’d personally rather sit at home chat shit with my friends online and play games than sit in a pub paying daft prices for soft drinks.

  2. Britain has always loved computer games, when the video game industry first began UK was one of the biggest early markets to embrace it, and there’s been plenty of landmark video games made in the UK too, so makes sense. Plus the weather is a bit crap most of the year.

  3. Wait I’m confused title states UK is the world’s biggest gamers then article says it slipped to fourth with brazilians spending more of their time online?

  4. If we had Spains weather id be outside enjoying it lol. Instead we have rain and 10degC most of the year

  5. The streets are kinda grotty and while I love the rugged charm it’s not very pretty unless the weather is nice, then it’s the most beautiful country on the planet.

Today, it’s sunny so I’m outside drinking and listening to music. When I woke up and it was cloudy I decided I was going to shut the curtains and play games all day. It really is weather dependent for me, if I lived in Spain I’d only play games at night and even then I’d be too busy enjoying that special kind of ‘coolness’ you get in the air when the earth has been beaten all day by the sun

  6. Makes sense, the majority of games are catered to us as English is our first language. Not to mention, Britain on the whole loves it’s technology and our weather. Is less than desirable for Manny months of the year.

  7. Tbh I play video games in my spare time instead of watching endless TV, so count me in for above average time spent gaming.

The only thing that matters is you enjoy your days while holding down your responsibilities.

  8. I still play World of Warcraft, 4 and a half hours a week is child’s play haha. That said I’m usually just logged in and idling, so it’s a bit deceiving. My partner’s probably averaging 100+ hours a week on Lost Ark at the moment, since he can game while working.

We do like our games. I go outside every day for walks, but the area I live in isn’t the nicest and I also live in Scotland, so you can imagine the weather isn’t always ideal. I know it’s important to get some exercise and fresh air all the same!

  9. Are weather is shit it’s either to hot or too cold. This is too be expected. Also teens don’t exactly have a lot of places to hang out

  10. Fucking hell highest ammount of gamin done than the rest of the world by 4 says, how fucked is this shit hole country we cling to like a homesick turd hangin down your leg

  11. I think the change really happened when it became ok for adults to play games. It really wasn’t a thing ten years ago to see parents or commuters on their phone playing candy crush etc. That would really make our numbers go up rather than specifically children and teens from other countries.

  12. Yeah I basically game from 8pm till 11pm every night instead of watching TV. I do this more now since the pandemic started because news, doomscrolling etc gave me anxiety to the point where I’d get chest pains. Then I discovered the dragon quest XI demo on switch, bought it and it was my comfort in weird times.

TLDR: please buy Dragon Quest XI if you can lol

edit: I also LOVE playing video games on a rainy Saturday. Bliss. And now my daughter is a bit older I can do it a bit more as I will play handheld while she watches TV or she will ask to watch. She loves watching me play animal crossing and Mario kart as well as DQ XI. We’ve also spent many a happy hour in woodland areas pretending to play dragon quest with sticks swords haha!

  13. Well there is fuck all else I can do. Wild camping illegal. Houses too small to store much stuff for doing outside. Highstreet full of vape shops.

May as well just sit in and play games then.

  14. Britain tends to be the leader in stuff like this simply because we are an island nation and one of the largest technological powerhouse nations in the world, we are the biggest online shoppers too, Microsoft a couple years ago said the UK got more achievement points than even the USA.

We are bored people stuck on an island thats mostly raining, gotta do something and sex is happening less and less.

  15. But according to [this](https://www.statista.com/statistics/195768/global-gaming-reach-by-country/) we are 36th, below USA, China, South Korea, Russia, India, Brazil etc which makes a lot more sense. It shows we are similar to Scandinavian countries like Sweden which I’ve noticed game a lot, as well as Germany, France etc so I definitely agree more with this. Not sure how accurate the article is. People saying there’s less to do here, not sure I agree with that. Especially since we are so big on outdoor activities like many sports (including water sport), gardening, hiking, sailing, horse riding, fishing, pub/bar culture and lots more. I imagine there’s just as much, if not more to do than other counties. I suppose the weather does play a big part though

  16. I’m nearly 52 and still love playing computer games, absolutely obsessed with Elden Ring but totally shit at it. Probaby play at least ten hours a week, hold down a full time job and get excited like a kid waiting in line for my Steam Deck.(Q3)!.
