This is probably a strange place to ask, but I simply don’t know anyone based in Norway to help me source an early 1990s VHS tape of a 1987 film called Is-Slottet. From over here in Australia, it’s not possible for me to locate, and it doesn’t seem like there’s any easily accessible community groups for VHS collectors that can be found by any conventional means. I’ve been scouring around for this tape for a while and I figure that people in the community here would likely know of, or perhaps know where I might find this film. It’s an adaptation of Tarjei Vesaas novel, but it’s likely not going to be re-released on blu-ray or DVD anytime soon. I’m happy to pay a finder’s fee to get ahold of a copy. I was directed to try use [https://www.finn.no/](https://www.finn.no/) as a means to hunt it down, but they also recommended I ask around here as it seems to be pretty active. I know a few copies seem to exist in public libraries in Norway but getting them simply isn’t an option for me. I put a listing up on [finn.no](https://finn.no) where I was willing to pay 300kr for used or (far more unlikely) 500kr for new. I had to use Google translate to figure out the site due to my inadequacies in speaking Norwegian. In the context of the Norwegian market, I haven’t the slightest clue if that’s a fair price for this particular one or not, but it’s one of those rarities I’ve had zero luck finding so far and I’m going for more unconventional approaches to find what I’m looking for.

Q+A Section:
Q: Why am I buying a VHS of this when a streaming version exists?
A: I’m bad with money and collect obscure things because I enjoy hunting down difficult to find things.

  1. I think you need to add another 0 there if you want to Get some attention.

The flea market refused my last vhs movies like 10 years ago. They have been considered trash for quite some time, so it is extremely unlikely that someone has held onto this film. If they have they will probably not go through the trouble to look through their attic and ship it internarionally for 300 kroner.

  2. My husband collects VHS in Norway and might be able to help you find it. He’s not on Reddit though – are you on Instagram or Messenger? Then he can contact you directly. You can let me know in a private message if you’d like.

  3. Hi! Looking on finn reveals quite a few DVD hits, some books and even an original poster for the movie, but no VHS versions so far. Seems like a very rare object. If you like DM me and I will gladly look on finn regularly for you or it may show up at “loppemarked” and the season for that is just getting started.

Can also check with the in laws they have a ton of old VHS

  4. Maybe the face book group : Norsk samlergruppe for eldre leketøy, film og retro popkultur. There are many VHS collectors in this group. Maybe they can help…

  5. A quest!

I’ll keep my eyes open, but don’t hold your breath, VHS aren’t exactly everywhere anymore, but I like thrifting and often look through things like these.
