Macau Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai’s visit to Portugal and Spain, scheduled for 16 to 23 September, has been postponed, MNA has learned from official sources.
No new date has yet been set for Sam’s visit to the Iberian countries.
On 26 August, the Government Information Bureau announced the opening of media registration for Sam’s tour. The trip would have been his first overseas visit since taking office last December, with stops in Lisbon and Madrid.
A visit by Sam to Lisbon had been expected to take place earlier this year but was postponed due to Portugal’s snap elections and the formation of a new government.
The most recent visit to Portugal by a Macau SAR Chief Executive was made by Ho Iat Seng in April 2023.
All of Sam’s predecessors made their first overseas visits to Portugal.
