HA! Instant recognition! I stayed in a cottage a couple of miles behind you in my mid twenties. I have video like this on YouTube but going the other way on a rainy day in a BMW 320d I rented for that trip. I think I was misinformed by the woman we rented the cottage from, about the use of Inch Kenneth as a burial ground. Sad I didn’t make a lot more videos. I love the stormy weather more than the sunny days.
Instantly recognised, and yes one of the best coastal I have ever driven by… thanks for sharing!
Amazing drive, and the locals will get mad at you for not doing it at 60mph.
If by ‘Scenic Route’ you mean circumnavigating the central third of the island and turning a 15 mins drive into 75 mins, then yes.
How I miss cycling that! Mind the (few) potholes :O
That road used to terrify me as a child (mainly due to my Dad’s driving!) See also: Calgary to Treshnish.
White knuckle rides.
I walked/hitchhiked that route long ago as a young backpacker. In looking back, it was probably among the most poignant and formative travelling experiences ever. I was travelling solo/alone most of the time. Occasionally a seal would pop its head out of the water and follow me as I walked below the dramatic cliffs. At one point I had run out of drinking water, so I knocked on the door of the first house I saw. A friendly old fella came out to greet me. He ended up inviting me in when he found out I was from Cape Breton; he had lots of CB music in his collection and had some books written by people from home. Also turned out that the water he gave me came from the stream across the road haha!
I returned to Mull a few years later. It’s a special place for me indeed.
