Ukraine acknowledges that the ‘Ghost of Kyiv’ is a myth.

  1. It was almost impossible for this to be true, however stories like these can be a massive boost in moral for the ukrainian troops.

  2. Considering the thing emerged on social media and was supported by footage from DCS (game-flight sim) it was pretty obvious there’s no way it’s one actual pilot, especially given technological inferiority of Ukraine’s air force, Russia pilots would have to brain-dead to lose 40 jets to one pilot.

Most of the jet shutdowns seems to be ground based SAMs, but I understand why PR dept. of Ukraine AF took this and ran with it.

  3. It was acknowledged after the second day? After the immediate threat to Kyiv stopped.

I understood it to be a symbol for how Ukrainian Air Forces are still operating two months into the war.

  4. It was obvious to me that it wasn’t true from the start…I wondered for a time if it wasn’t disinformation started to hide the fact that some western government was flying sorties to protect Kviv early in the war because it seemed impossible that Ukraine had a functioning air force. Turns out that Russia just sucks.

  5. Wartime propaganda rather than a myth.

After the dust settles, will be interesting to see how much of what’s reported nowadays turns out to be an utter bs.

  6. I mean, yeah, these things happen in war. The actions of many people are condensed and a myth is born. That’s human nature. We all loved a good story, “true” or “false” has little to do with it.

One we have here in the states is [Molly Pitcher](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molly_Pitcher), an amalgamation of the efforts of women during the revolution and war for independence.
