Greek Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis defended the Greece-Cyprus electricity interconnection after Cyprus’ finance minister called the project “unsustainable.”
“This cable is part of the European energy strategy. It is not a national plan of Greece. It is a project of European priority,” Hatzidakis said in an interview with state broadcaster ERT.
He stressed that Cyprus stands to benefit most, as the plan would end its energy isolation. “Our commitment is very specific,” he said, noting Greece has already acted through ministries and agencies. “Cyprus must clarify its stance,” he added, following Nicosia’s remarks.
