Ian Fleming’s lost James Bond screenplay reveals a very different 007. With no Moneypenny and no M, a previously unpublished script reveals the author’s original ideas for Moonraker

  1. They lifted some of the background of novel Drax and used it in Die Another Day which is a fun piece of trivia.

Book Moonraker was superb and really would have been far better than what the movie turned out to be. But obviously the producers wanted to compete with Star Wars and so we got the awful dross that was Moonraker the movie instead.

  2. I’d love to read it. Shame it’s probably just going to sit in some collection somewhere, without ever being published.

  3. I would strongly recommend the podcast “Kill James Bond”.

A pretty funny 21st century look at the series along with some really interesting facts about how they were made and the actors, crew etc. involved.

  4. *Thunderball* (the novel) was also originally a screenplay. Fleming using the story without proper crediting of the others led to a whole heap of problems regarding rights to SPECTRE.
