Anyone believe this?

  1. Not sure how they expect to do so. Sounds like the usual bullshit promises.

A huge reason why childcare costs are so high is because of insurance.
A parent in my area sued the local creche because her child fell (as kids do) and banged their head. Nothing serious, but they had to pay out something like 100k due to “negligence” or some shite.

If there was a waiver or something that stated “by enrolling my child here I absolve this creche of all legal responsibility” that would cut insurances costs a lot, but I understand why parents would be against this.

It’s the same as the other compensation issues in Ireland. Lads suing the council for tripping on the footpath. Having businesses/local authorities be accountable for major injuries is important and useful, but is currently being abused.

  2. Why are the government taking responsibility for an expensive private industry?

The state are already subsidising childcare quite a bit.
The plan is to increase those subsidies even further in the next budget.

I legit think I might jack in my business & open a childcare center.
I’m not sure of any other private industry where the government provides free direct subsidies and then still lets you turn a profit.

  3. Something like a €50 reduction through an altering of the current system won’t make a dent in current costs. They need to find a way to take hundreds off it
