spotted an interesting statue in Derry today. A bit much no?

  1. It’s from the Order of St Michael and St George. The image is supposed to represent St Michael standing on the head of Satan.

  2. That’s the normal St Michael statue. Is it an issue that Satan is black/brown?

I think he’s white but darkened due to the fires of hell.

  3. So, Ireland is just like everywhere else in the Anglophone world, influenced by American pseudo-politics, so now people go about looking for things to be offended about on other people’s behalf? Great.

  4. Yeah, the Church was definitely used for open white supremacy back in the days. I’m Danish and I read an article the other day about how Denmark sent convicts’ families to Greenland in the 18th century to, uhm, “lighten the mood” there. Just like Britain did in places like Australia. It wasn’t as systemic as what the Brits did so it didn’t have a catastrophic outcome for the Greenlanders, but it definitely was attempted.
