  1. That’s scary, last time I checked to kilowatt hour was a unit of energy/power. What an idiot.

  2. after we get the trump administration out of office, we’re gonna need rules on preventing this (an administration like theirs *ever* worming its way into our office again):

-bare minimum of credentials/qualifications for agency heads; the “no dummies” law

in the meantime, we should get them out early by impeaching arresting or citizens arresting all of them

  3. Couldn’t help posting this as I’m shocked by this comment from the U.S. Secretary of Energy. The lies and misinformation from official channels are a bad sign for the future of the US energy system and the competitiveness of the energy related business on the world stage. I’m not personally affected by this, but I’m amazed at how blatant the lies are that US government institutions are spouting as somebody who has professional insight into energy systems and planning

  4. Yeah, and I wonder what percentage of global energy consumption would go away because (1) we don’t have to transport fuel all over the place and (2) electric motors are more energy efficient than combustion engines.

  5. I work in the utility industry and this guy is just making shit up. Typical fraudulent statement people people in the Trump administration. We are so f’ed.

  6. Just ran some back of the napkin numbers, but I think you could power a little over 1,000 earth’s if you wrapped the entire planet in solar panels. You’d need about a little more than 1 California worth of solar panels to power the entire planet.

  7. As an Engineer in the utility industry this is beyond horrifying….

  8. The Earth receives an average of about 1.5 x 10²² joules of solar energy each day. This is equivalent to 173,000 terawatts of power being delivered to the planet continuously.

Nearly everything we do is powered by the sun, including all the food we eat, and every drop of oil we burn that was converted solar energy eons ago along with some gravity and internal heat.

  9. He has a masters degree in electrical engineering from MIT too. 🤦‍♂️

  10. Let him wet his fingers and stick them in an open switched on light socket. Then tell us electricity isn’t energy.

  11. They’re just trying to change the definition of words because they know the media will allow it to happen.

  12. How stupid to cite such BS statistics when anyone with a phone can fact check you in seconds.

  13. He’s wrong on every X post. He’s a fossil fuel shill.

  14. The first statement is just wrong, but I there is a lot of truth in the second. Today, electricity does provide about 20% of our end-energy-use, the other 80% comes in the form of molecules: gas, oil and bio-mass. As a fossil fuel stan I think he’s trying to make the point that ‘no amount’ of electricity can replace those molecules – which is shockingly ignorant.

As many have pointed out there is orders of magnitude more energy available from solar and wind then we currently need. The issue is 1) delivery and 2) how to couple that to the entire economy. Much can be directly electrified such as building heating and light/medium duty transportation (heat pumps & batteries). Other sectors such as industrial high temperature processing; iron smelting; cement manufacture & heavy duty transport like shipping need to couple to solar & wind through a molecule like hydrogen that can be burned or synthesized into whatever is needed.

  15. These days, every time I see something so obviously wrong that anyone can immediately see it’s wrong or easily google, I know it’s ragebait with some other purpose. That post got 3.4M views, probably from everyone telling him he’s wrong/dumb.

The question is, why is he rage baiting?

  16. These guys hate solar because once it’s installed it’s very low maintenance. There aren’t entire industries required to keep it alive and moving.

Their biggest fear is home-grown local distributed generation.

  17. If only we could produce energy directly from political donations.

  18. I think that he’s conflating solar panel efficiency with *something*.

  19. I don’t even understand why the oligarchs are supporting this shit at this point.

  20. People voted to replace Democracy with an Idiocracy. And here we are. 💁🏾‍♂️

  21. If we could convert the social media stupidity from this administration into electricity, there would be enough electricity to power the eastern seaboard.***

    *** Conservative estimate.

  22. If it does not burn, it’s not energy. That’s the hidden message from the Secretary.
