3. The coup failed because the soldiers who were supposed to carry out the plan were sent to harvest corn.

This guy was no hero, he was just as bad as Ceaușescu, he wanted to overthrow the Ceaușescu regime with one more friendly to the soviets, the soviets refused to support its attempt at overthrowing Ceaușescu. His plan was uncovered and he was accused of being a spy. After the 1989 revolution at his order the man who lead the investigation against him was assasinated and then managed to intentionally create chaos in the country, he is considered a war criminal.
