In essence, the fund is focused on supporting the transition of road freight transport away from ICE power to zero-emission fuel types, either battery-electric or hydrogen fuel-cell. Companies are able to apply for financial support towards the cost of purchasing or leasing new zero-emission trucks, investments in charging or refueling infrastructure, or the cost of new grid connections.

This month, the amount of funding available this year was increased from 323m kr (€43.2m) to 352.5m kr (€47.2m), following the reallocation of 29.5m kr (€3.9m) of funds originally earmarked for biogas-powered trucks. That means successful applicants could receive around 4 million kr each.

The application window opened on September 3rd, and closes on September 30th at 15:00. The Danish transport authorities state that the funds will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, with the overall goal being to spark a shift towards e-mobility in the Danish logistics sector. For reference, the previous funding round of 75 million kr reportedly sold out in eight minutes with a total of 36 projects awarded.

The expansion of the funding coincides with the launch of Denmark’s first ever megawatt charging station in Odense, Jylland. The new Kempower charging station can deliver up to 1.2MW of power to charge electric trucks in 45 minutes or more. The new charger will be used to charge vehicles at the depot of Danske Fragtmænd, one of Denmark’s largest logistics companies.

Erik Kanerva, director of sales in North Europe at Kempower, said: “Denmark is setting a powerful example for Europe and the world. By investing in truck charging infrastructure, the country is not only reducing emissions but also paving the way for scalable, future-proof logistics… We’re pleased to offer our full support to organizations applying for the subsidy and would encourage applicants to reach out. Together with our local collaborators, we can provide the expert guidance, technical solutions and project support needed to ensure successful applications and impactful installations.”
