The original post mentions the Ukrainians parked a drone on the BUK to make sure it didn’t get away. You can see the video feed from the drone on the BUK at 0:57.
Wait… they are putting drones ON targets now?
Interesting software update for these. Wonder what the blue, red and orange circle mean. I’m guessing orange is a waypoint and red a target point. Not sure if either is set by the operator, someone else or automatically. At about 19 seconds the operator seems to be guiding the blue towards the red circle.
Either way blue pretty clearly seems to be a CCIP reticle.
I’m really reaching here but it might be possible the orange and red circle might be linked in software to the fixed wing drone and the operator of it designating “go/look here and bomb here” with the orange and red circles respectively. Considering both drones are in realtively close proximity they wouldn’t need an actual target designator like a laser but rather just trigenometry to be able to share points between them kind of like the trignometric rangefinder in the AH64 (which would work great in Ukraine considering how flat it is). Means essentially any drone can be used for direct direcation and designation rather than having to go “he’s in the house left of the bathroom” for example over the radio.
Would be really cool because it’d greatly simplify and expediate the kill-chain between ISR and Attack Drones like the baba yaga.
