The Turkish Women’s National Volleyball Team, known as the “Sultans of the Net,” is preparing for a historic encounter at the 2025 FIVB Women’s World Championship.
After a stunning 3–1 quarterfinal victory over the United States, Türkiye has reached the semifinals for the first time in tournament history, where they will face Japan on Saturday, September 6, at 11:30 a.m. (GMT +3).
Dominance through the tournament
Türkiye has dominated the competition so far, winning all group-stage matches against Spain, Bulgaria, and Canada, as well as defeating Slovenia in the Round of 16. Despite giving up a set against the United States in the quarterfinal, the team demonstrated both resilience and tactical superiority.

Japan: A formidable opponent
Japan enters the semifinal as one of the most disciplined and fast-paced teams in the championship. Coached by Ferhat Akbas, they pose both a technical and strategic challenge for Türkiye. This matchup is expected to be a clash of contrasting volleyball philosophies, testing the skill, speed, and mental fortitude of both teams.

Key players to watch
Melissa Vargas scored 27 points against the United States and will be pivotal in both serving and attacking. Ebrar Karakurt contributed 19 points in the quarterfinal, remaining a vital offensive presence. Veteran captain Eda Erdem Dündar continues to provide leadership and stability on the court.
