Cyprus recorded deflation of 0.9% in August on an annual basis, according to figures released on Thursday by the Statistical Service of Cyprus (CyStat). This marks the fourth consecutive month of deflation in the country.
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) reached 117.04 units in August 2025, up from 116.65 in July, marking a monthly increase of 0.39 units.
The biggest annual increases were observed in services (+3.6%), with the categories “Restaurants and Hotels” (+4.5%) and “Recreation and Culture” (+3.9%) making a significant positive contribution.
In contrast, electricity prices dropped by 11.6% and petroleum products by 7.3%, exerting downward pressure on the index.
Compared with July 2025, the largest monthly increases were recorded in agricultural products (+4.4%) and in food and non-alcoholic beverages (+1.8%), while clothing and footwear saw a decrease of 1.1%.
For the period January-August 2025, compared to the same period in 2024, the sharpest changes were recorded in clothing and footwear (-6%), restaurants and hotels (+4.7%), and education (+3.8%).
