Couple will choose jail over paying €300 fine for travelling 70km to Mass during lockdown

  1. Ugh, they prob think they are martyrs now.

And jail isn’t even in the discussion, they weren’t given a choice. They brought up going to jail, not the judge

  2. State of the people defending them here. Christ almighty 99% of the country followed the lockdown rules regardless of how bizarre some of them were. To be a cunt and believe you were above the law so you could see some lad spout nonsense in a crowd of people is disrespectful of everyone else who followed the rules and those who died to covid.

  3. Cases like this should also punish the priest. Maybe they’ll talk people out of breaking the law if they’re going to be culpable for enticing it.

  4. > This was Psalm Sunday … the day Jesus rode into Nazareth on a donkey

Its it a bit weird that they claim to be devout Christians but they get basic bits of the story wrong?

  5. > Going to Mass that Sunday was extremely important to us

Yeah well not getting Covid-19 is important to a lot of people, you cunts.

  6. “Retired Nurse” flouts pandemic regulations, claims religious discrimination!

So if you are late for Mass, can you break the speed limit to get there? (Because my attending Mass is > any law)

  7. Look.
This was just ordinary people wanting to do an ordinary thing. The only difference is it was an extraordinary time. Sure they broke the rules, but should the rules really have applied to them in the first place? These people are special, look at all the things they’ve done, look at all the things that make them special. Shouldn’t they get special treatment? Nobody was harmed, nobody was hurt. The hotel said all the rules were followed anyway. They were in two separate rooms.

Oh wait. Sorry, that’s Golfgate. This is completely different…

Sometimes the hypocrisy in this country switches so fast, its in danger of giving you whiplash.

  8. They picked prison over the fine because they know its just a day trip to prison to be told, “Sign here please…ok Bye…BTW, have you got a ride home or do you need us to call you a taxi?”

  9. It’s not too often you read an Irish news story and have to double check that it’s about Roscommon and not, let’s say, Florida. The “Catholic lives matter” sealed it for me.

  10. You can all downvote me as much as you’d like but if we’re sending two pensioners to jail but we don’t send the scroats on the street attacking people and causing much more harm there’s something wrong

  11. I in no way agree with them at all infact I don’t, you can prey at home. But any judge sentencing people when our own PM threw a party is an idiot

  12. Can pray and believe in God at the end of your bed same as you can in the church pews.

I thought Christian belief had looking after your neighbour in there somewhere too, not sure how spreading disease helps them though.
