  1. “Hickinbottom said he had no desire to frustrate the islands’ aspirations to self-determination as a modern democracy and recommended a year-long constitutional review to end opportunities for abuse and dishonesty in public office.”

    Hmmmmm

  2. I’m sure they are going to close all the tax loopholes very quickly. There is no way they are going to use this to facilitate more tax avoidance.

  3. 700k of cocaine, absolute rookie numbers when it comes to dodgy shit. The Tories will show them how to turn 6 figures into 10 or 11

  4. Wasn’t our former attorney general out there defending this geezer? If so he lost the case.

Sir Geoffrey Cox was working so hard in the BVI that he forgot he was a member vof parliament. He continued voting by zoom as he had been allowed to do so during covid lockdown one. I believe he was defending the crooked BVI govt against the British government.

  5. I’m sure this headline is wrong.

Aren’t the BVI government imposing direct rule over the UK because of the rampant corruption here?

  6. And putting it in the hands of the Tories will solve rampant corruption?????

    Do me a favour 🙂

  7. *Rule Britannia Intensifies*

NZ is next, then we recombine Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh into New British India.

  8. Heard this story on the news driving home. Something about how, as part of the UK ‘family’, the high standards of transparency, fairness and respect for the law should be upheld there.

    ….. the irony.

  9. This is my own ignorance here but I didn’t even know that the UK could do this to an overseas territory. I’m maybe confusing it with crown dependencies.

  10. That’s because Tories want a slice of the cocaine pie. Can’t be left out of any dodgy deal themselves.

  11. I think I’m expressing a dream here but… Would it be too much asking if the UK government acted to stop the BVI from bring the world’s epicentre of money laundering and tax evasion schemes?

  12. Should impose direct rule over the lot and give each Overseas Territory its own MP. They’d be Overseas Constituencies then.

And I imagine they’d all vote left 《《《

  13. Tory government learns of rampant corruption in British Virgin Islands and thinks ‘we’ve gotta get us a piece of that action’

  14. Isn’t that the reason the UK still keeps it around? To funnel koney out of the country?

  15. If you ignore the asshole British hunters who killed thousands of elephants, gaining “independence” was a really bad thing for Sri Lanka in hindsight. 74 years of unchecked corruption and lawlessness has brought Sri Lanka to where it is now. People literally dying waiting in line for commodities, and there’s no hope in sight.

  16. What a massive surprise. Who would have thought the BVI was corrupt? Anyone who ever went there or made a casual enquiry for at least the last 40 years and probably long before that.

  17. Don’t heads of state have diplomatic immunity when they visit foreign countries, particularly hostile ones?

  18. This isn’t news. The British Virgin Islands are moving from one bunch of corrupt wankers to another? Same shit different shovel. No change.

  19. If only the UK had some benevolent overlords who could come swoop in here and get rid of the corrupt Tory bastards…
