Is there a gender neutral term for nurse nowadays?
Or is it just “altra”, (which I thought meant “foster”)?
I think it’s just Altra now.
There is no /k/ sound in dochtúir
It’s always interesting looking at which Irish words are derivations of English ones, and which seem to have come about on their own. Why are we using a borrowed word for doctor, but not for nurse?
Am I just a silly purest in preferring if terms that weren’t just phonetic translations from English were used more? There’s no doubt a wide number of terms to mean “professional/trained healer” in Irish that were in use before *dochtúir* won out
