We also have yet another example showing that Nadine doesn’t have a clue what she is talking about
>I love how Nadine Dorries justifies privatising Channel 4 by claiming that Channel 5 was privatised 3 to 5 years ago. Channel 5 launched in 1997 as a private business as a result of a franchise auction but I guess you couldn’t expect the Culture Secretary to know this
>Yes, I misspoke- it was 2014 when Viacom bought C5 – a public service broadcaster – resulting in increased private investment, not a few years ago! However, the substance of my point remains exactly the same. But, you nit pick away if that’s what makes you really happy.
So pointing out facts that a government minster should know is nitpicking now.

>Culture Ministers must be super confident they know best when C4 bosses, the TV production industry, the consultation and voter opinion polls are all against privatisation so it is very strange they won’t answer questions about it.
Sadly, they are only interested in public opinion that supports their agenda.
Albert Einstein brilliantly predicted that under free market Capitalism, wealth would become concentrated in a few hands and they would then dominate the means of communication so that proper democracy would no longer be possible
Right Wing media and Right Wing Politicians disguise themselves as Saviours so in the end, you’re not fighting just against them, but against the blindfolded + brainwashed masses that have succumbed to their Lies and laugh you off…..not knowing that their ignorance and apathy for what happens around them are exactly what keep these nationalist brutes in power
the tories don’t give a fuck, it’s ideological not evidence-based.
the one good thing thatcher did and they are craping all over it
Anything that has come from Nadine Dorries brain is automatically a bad idea.
96% vs 4%. That’s a mandate right there. The 4% mustn’t have their voices ignored.
That’s fine but stop sending people to court and prison becomes that cant afford it make it pay for view i dont watch terrestrial TV and havent for over a decade but its unfair to put a family or person under more stress
She had been told to flog it for the cash. Maybe to reduce the number of voices of dissent. But more likely for the cash.
Nobody really thinks she has any plans to help Channel 4, do they?
If anyone was serious about Channel 4 being outside of government then just change its status to that of a not for profit. Simple charter, overseen by a trust etc. That won’t happen as the government will want a crony or two to make a profit out of it
There should be no public funding at all we have children going without food and old people going with out heat no that money should go to the people we pay taxes to support not a TV station
They way tories operate reminds me of cats pushing stuff off shelves. They sit there, doing something they know is a fucking stupid idea, while everyone around them says “don’t do that!”
Then they do it anyway while they’re staring right into your eyes. And they keep doing it.
Of course as far as I know all cats aren’t morally bankrupt, greedy, callous, filthy little cunts like all tories are, but you get the gist.
It’s an attrocious concept designed by a absolute brainlet in a suit. Thanks umbridge or whatever she’s called
Boris just needs to GTFO so some adults can be back in charge and drop stupid shit like this, like the dog whistle to their rabid anti-woke supporters it is.
At this point, Nadine Dorries knows she’s entirely wrong, but as always is too stubborn to admit her errors and back down. Instead, *doubles* down on her efforts. Typical Tory
Channel 4 doesn’t even need selling. The Tories are obsessed with selling everything off. Don’t forget they already sold thousands of grandmothers down the river to private nursing homes during covid.
I was thinking the other day, could ITV and C5/Viacom buy it?
Absolute farce of a consultation – receiving 56k responses with the majority against Government plans to privatise Channel 4. All the government says is “we acknowledge that a substantial number of consultation responses did not agree…”
Good, privatisation has worked out so well for everything else eh. Selling off our public assets really has made everything it touched so much cheaper and efficient /s
And the B*stards will do it anyway because the little people like you and I don’t count.
Majority of what?
Smurfs? Sheep? Hibernian grandmothers?
Channel 4 already makes more money than it spends, it’s a very successful broadcaster and 100% of the profits are reinvested back into it.
The reason they want to privatise it is because it’s successful and people want a cut of that profit. Once private, they’ll prioritise profit making and only reinvest the bare minimum to keep it running, like they’ve done with pretty much everything that’s gone private.
A few years from new I bet there’s going to be someone known as the Channel 4 billionaire – basically someone who made their billions from Channel 4 – billions which should have been reinvested back to Channel 4.
The argument for privatisation always centres around generating funds from outside investment, but those investors are only investing because they expect to get more in return – basically a loan. This can be useful if the company is about to become bankrupt or planning a huge expansion, none which apply to channel 4. Chances are there’s a lot of money exchanging pockets behind closed doors to make this happen.
Don’t privatize it. Trust me. It’s worse.

There ain’t many tv channels that have done as much good as channel 4.
Everything from disability awareness with their coverage of the Paralympics and programmes like the last leg to Sundays spent regretting overdoing the weekend with come dine with me and 4 in a bed on in the background. Plus much more. So why fuck with it.
Why are people so keen to pay for absolute rubbish is beyond me.
“Fuck you we’re doing it anyway” – The Tories (probably)
It’s years since I watched Channel 4, so I looked at today’s schedule. Wife Swap USA, Frasier, Simpsons, Cheers, King of Queens, Hollyoaks and Gogglebox. What a load of shite. Get rid.
“So, this many people *can* be wrong” – Nadine Dorres
And yet there seems to be nothing the public can do about it.
Honestly thought channel 4 was already privately owned. Why else do they have adverts?
