Celebrate Britain’s heritage for free
This month, Britain invites you to free events that will help you learn more about its captivating heritage.
FAMILY FUN: Visit the Heritage Open Days festival, which will take place from September 12 to 21.
You can expect free entertainment for all ages – from participating in a family court case at the National Justice Museum in Nottingham to a silent disco in Newton Minster on the Isle of Wight.
Most events are open to everyone.
FREE FOR ALL: All 6000 events are free, even those that usually require payment.
For example, a family visiting Corfe Castle in Dorset on September 20-21 can save up to £35 on a regular ticket.
The festival is organized by the National Trust with support from the People’s Postcode Lottery. Heritage Open Days also provide the opportunity to visit many places that are usually not open to the public, such as the Cadbury archives in Bournville, Birmingham.

Walks, lectures and tours
Other regions of Great Britain also celebrate history this month with free tours and events.
The Scotland Doors Open Days festival has nearly 1000 events.
The program started last weekend and will run throughout September. Details can be found at doorsopendays.org.uk.
In Wales, you can uncover over 200 hidden gems and historic sites during Open Doors days. Details at cadw.gov.wales.
In Northern Ireland, preparations are being made for the European Heritage Days. See discovernorthernireland.com.
CAPITAL EXPERIENCE: In London, the Open House festival will run from September 13 to 21, providing the opportunity to visit the most extraordinary places in the capital, many of which are usually closed to the public.
Events are free, but booking is required for some locations at programme.openhouse.org.uk.
