How is staring a someone sexual harrassment?? Weird, creepy, uncomfortable yes, but this would mean every time I’ve been to Germany I’ve been sexually harrassed multiple times a day. They love a stare.
> Bex had initially worried she was “overreacting”, but says that, ironically, one of the new anti-staring posters was placed right above where the man was sitting in the carriage.
“Seeing that made me feel, ‘I have a right to feel comfortable'”.
“Bex is so unsure of anything after having grown up in a social media justice obsessed sideshow she had to check in to see if see should be outraged by something. She was confused because it was happening to her and she has only got previous experience with vicariously expressing outrage. When she thought about it she decided this was appalling and it gave her a dopamine hit”
And now we all have to live with the idea that we are all relying on *other people’s* interpretation of what constitutes staring. This being the same *other people* who may believe the earth is flat.
In all seriousness though, some creepy cunt staring like a freak at you should feel threatened to do so and that they might get done for it, it’s not on and if we can’t do it without laws then fuck it, have laws
They know prolonged staring is intimidating. Do it to a guy and it can turn to aggression really quickly so just knock it off.
So the idea is to make it a punishable offense if somebody feels you’ve made them uncomfortable? This is not about sexual harassment but about people being incapable or unwilling to deal with others in a grown up way. This of course also includes unpleasant behaviour from others like moronic behaviour – because it’s not criminal behaviour.
But what can you do with eyes if not used to look? Wear shades?
Maybe it’s because I’m blatantly (awaiting an assessment) on the spectrum, but I just don’t understand how you can tell the difference between somebody staring at you sexually or staring at you because ‘ooo I’ve not seen that kind of earring before’ or something.

But then for me, just looking at a person at all feels like a bit of a mildly intimate thing that should only really be done between friends. Particularly looking into the eyes, I feel like my missus is the only persons eyes I should ever look directly into. It’s not even a ‘held belief’ of mine, it just feels unformfortable/akward.
I agree with this in principle, but how in hell would you actually prove this or prevent malicious false accusations?
It’s 2022 and women want men arrested for looking in their direction.
“iT’s NoT lOoKiNg It’S sTaRiNg AnD iT mAkEs Me UnCoMfOrTaBlE”
Well get over it. Move away from their vision. If they stalk you that becomes a possible criminal offence, but looking in your direction should never ever be criminalised because the encroachment on our freedom to LOOK is more important than you feeling 100% comfortable 100% of your delicate lives.
>he stood, less than a metre away, looking.
People always overestimate one metre. The doors in your house are less than two metres high. Half that. That’s inside your personal space, if someone is stood that close staring at you that’s not questionable behaviour, that’s harassment or looking for a fight.
Going off the man’s behaviour in this example he’s absolutely going to be convicted of raping a girl in the park in 5 years time.
It’s obviously intimidating and harassment. It’s not normal to stare.
Poor guy mixed up his eye drops with superglue this morning and now he’s off to jail
It’s not staring, they’re just doing an ocular pat-down to assess for threats!
So many men here talking about how this isn’t a problem.
“Bex says there is a clear difference “between someone [who is] people-watching and somebody looking and staring at you”.
Jamie Klingler of Reclaim These Streets agrees: “We’ve all been caught admiring someone’s shoes or outfit… but it is the act of staring with intent, which makes [a victim] want to change [their] behaviour, that the posters are trying to tackle.”
But what is the legal definition of that difference? As someone who travels on trains very early in the morning I have a tendency to sleep, wake up confused and just stare at people before I properly come to my senses
I was on the tube recently and a lady who had clearly drifted into a day dream was unfortunately staring directly at my crotch the whole time. It’s hard for me to recall but it was at least a minute.
At 33, I’m well rounded enough to realise that she was day dreaming and it was just bad luck that it occurred right at my penis. Somebody less experienced may interpret it as lecherous behaviour. This is a limitation of these laws.
The young are being pumped to be hyper sensitive about all this shit and it will lead to infringements on people’s human right to look in certain directions.
The only safe place that you can look on the tube now is at your phone which is kind of bad. We should be encouraging people to interact more for mental health and not less.
Caught a guy doing this to a teenaged girl once, I just stared at him, as soon as he noticed me, he stopped. Made sure he got off the bus before she did as well
Lol I’m forever zoning out on trains, that rhythm and sound is so hypnotic to me. Now I’m going to be super paranoid I’m staring. It’s already bad that while I’m waking to work at 6am I’m legit scared someone is going to think I’m stalking them as I walk to work minding my own business as it is. Never hurt a fly in my life and the worlds making me feel like I’m a danger 🤷🏻♂️. But the worlds a messed up place and shit like this really happens so stay safe ppl and let’s all wish for a world where ppl ain’t scared in the first place.
I find this a very weird area, rights-wise.
On the one hand, it is really grim to be ogled at length. You can’t know if there’s something wrong with them, if they’re doing it to intimidate, if they’re on something, if they might escalate it, if there’s something else going on and they’re no threat to anyone.
On the other hand, we’re all supposed to be pro-bodily autonomy, and the right to swing your fists about stops in front of my nose. Presumably your right to control others’ eyes stops at the level of shared standards of politeness.
With the proliferation of cctv, facial recognition, body cams, smart phone tracking, smart speakers, dash cams; We clearly don’t care if weirdos are following/watching/listening to us, we just don’t want to know about it. So maybe people accused of this should be issued dark glasses, or offered a job at apple or the met. (s, you know, a bit)
This happened to me on a German train once and I eventually decided to stare back.
After a bit he suddenly turned his head to glare at me as it turned out he just had at least one lazy eye the whole time 🙁
Damn this post bought the creeps and incels out in force lmao.
Imagine being triggered because staring at women on the tube is no longer allowed…
How about this we all just fucking go back to ignoring each other like before but we can’t have that as people would also bitch about not been noticed.
This is why looking like me is a fucking positive because people think if they stare at me i might gouge their eyes out and eat their liver with a warm beer.
So we’re gonna get to a point where someone THINKS someone is staring at them, when in reality they’re looking at something BEHIND the person, and they’re gonna start screaming sexual harassment, just watch.
About time this is made a criminal offence. Speaking from daily experience of harassment staring, it’s disgusting to read these ignorant comments. How about pushing for change to stop women from constantly fearing for their safety and bodily autonomy.
This is the height of retardation. Terrible use of police resources.
Being stared at for being attractive is a total first world problem.
Had a guy stare at me on the tube recently so I waited until the next stop and changed carriages
No police. No bbc news article. No trouble. It’s pretty fucking simple
It’s official, some people in this country are now .U.S. style: pathetic, bigoted, hypocritical, permanently offended professional victims incapable of dealing with everyday occurances without declaring them sexist and or racist outrages and demandning society change to suit their delusional beliefs and villifying anyone who calls them out for it.
only one step away from being jailed for your thoughts .. stupidity at it’s finest.
he was also seen wearing “a loud shirt in a built up area”
