I think people are starting to realize they need to invest in their health if they don’t want to get fucked by the healthcare system. The first thing is to quit drinking and smoking (or never start in the first place). I wonder if smoking trends correlate with the trend in alcohol consumption.
Consider this part of waking up from the American dream and realizing America wants to rip you off at every corner. As the rich get richer, the growing divide will drop more and more people into poverty. Once so many drop below a certain standard of living, the system will collapse from the chaos. It’s only a matter of time.
“oh no they’re not drinking our poison every single day in excessive amounts”
Right.. get fucked.
Why is this being presented as a bad thing?
Weirdest situation to use “alcohol concerns”
” a sharp drop in reported drinking among Republicans (falling 19 points, to 46%) but not Democrats (holding fairly steady at 61%).”
Republicans are getting too poor to drink alcohol. The youngest generation is also too poor. You really think that republicans and 18-25 are listening to health commentary?
There are two things that account for this: poverty and legal cannabis.
I am very okay with prices decreasing.
I’m doing my part (in keeping numbers higher)
I like wine, I like scotch, but… i realized it was just not worth the calories, and potential damage. So I rarely drink these days.
I don’t doubt the drinking rate is going down right now, but there has to be a significant amount of noise to this data. There are some really dramatic 5+% shifts up and down in the space of a few years.
Seems like the actual rate probably held steady around 62% for the past 30 years, with measurement error. Unless 1 out of every 11 drinkers in 2012 totally quit for 2013 then picked it up again in 2014.
“drinking in moderation — that is, one or two drinks a day” …
This definition of “moderate” is wild to me. I guess norms really have changed.
It’s great news. We have millions of people living with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (many of which don’t even know it) and we will be a healthier and stronger society when the trend dies down just as gross cigarettes did.
I drink 6-8 beers a night since I’m unemployed this post is fake and gay
Everyone is also broke as fuck, especially young people. When I was younger everyone went out Friday and Saturday nights. We went out to just be out. Now if you go out in any major city, expect to drop a couple hundred each night, between uber, dinner, drinks, etc. I can’t do that more than once a month…if that.
Here is the actual chart of the data going back to 1939. If you draw a trend line it’s basically a horizontal line. Sure it’s down to 54% now, but it was up as high as 67% in 2022. I wouldn’t draw any conclusions based on this poll.
What is this post even doing in data is beautiful? It’s a wall a text and a piece of graphic art. I was expecting to find a graphic by year of US alcohol consumption. But nothing!
Did i miss something? Was my ad blocker hyperactive?
Perfect time to get a job in sales in the alcohol industry 😭😭😭
Health concerns? I just don’t drink it because it tastes like hand sanitizer (which tastes bad).
P.S. no I have never consumed hand sanitizer directly but eating food like pizza with yo hands after using it? 🤢
Also you have to drive everywhere…
Tbh, I’m kind of surprised that since 1945 the percentage seems to have always stayed within a ~20% range
