Péter Magyar, Orbán’s challenger decided to show up today in the village of Kötcse, where Orbán traditionally holds a “season” starting meeting. Magyar is followed by hundreds/thousands of individuals, while Orbán barricaded himself away in a local manor, surrounded by an army of policemen.

Is there hope this time or does Orban have all the media and system under control?
Even if this guy wins will the system be under control of Orban loyalists making his governance ineffective?
I can’t send pictures here, but Orbán arrived at the manor by landing with his private plane on a field behind the aforementioned manor. A manor which is surrounded by policeman and TEK agents (Orbán’s actual personal army, the Counter-Terrorist Unit) and is barricaded away from both the common people and journalists.
Interesting add-on: Orbán declared a few days ago that the meeting will be broadcast for the whole day. But then Magyar announced his gathering and the whole broadcast was pushed to 16:00. He is afraid.
I really hope it’s not too late for Hungary. Autocrats tend to bend the system in their favour, and install lackeys in every layer of the executive, judicial, and even the media.
This will be an uphill battle, and I cross fingers Hungarians will be able to take back their beautiful country.
Gotta love that Orbán doesn’t get to relax. He went away on vacation for 3-4 weeks, and the press and the opposition kept harping on his luxurious lifestyle (though sadly, the fidesz voters don’t care about that for some reason), they take a photo of him landing on a private jet after midnight. And now, on his firstday back, he has to deal with Magyar Péter on Kötcse, even though that was supposed to be a familiar get-together with party members only.
That’s the second Hungarian I’ve seen that has ‘hungarian’ as their surname. How common is that?
Typical autocratic behavior. Hiding behind the skirts of force. Same behavior as a Serbian autocrat displays. No wonder they are “good friends”
Orbán the so called street fighter:’D
Is this guy actually pro-democracy or just another authoritarian like Orbán?
This feels like the beginning of the end for Orban
Good for him…to hell with orban and his ilk
Based.
Also can we take a moment to appreciate how well Magyar looks, like it’s nice to see a politician who doesn’t look like a fat slob like Orban who probably drinks lard shakes with deep fried mayo on the side.
Is his name just Péter the Hungarian?😂
My, he does appear to be packing 🤩
Orban was in Ireland for the match last night.
Btw, during the rally of Magyar, people were chanting “Euro! Euro! Euro!” And “Russians go home!”.
I’m glad that Magyar is clearly gaining momentum. It would be great if Orban actually finally lost. Then Putin would lose its most loyal voice inside the EU. Imagine sanctions and aid decisions without Budapest acting as a constant spoiler. That being said, unfortunately Fidesz still controls most of the media and state institutions, and has built a very tight patronage network. It is possible that Magyar could win this, but he’ll have to overcome an electoral system designed to keep Orbán in power.
“I wish the protesters much strength so that they can hold out until the dictator Orbán is finally removed from power.”
Populism on both sides.
Can someone explain this for those of us who live upside down using harnesses and riding kangaroos to work please?
Man so sad this man mysteriously fell out of a window 3 months from now.
