US President Donald Trump stayed at his Turnberry course last month and just a couple of weeks later, Vice-President JD Vance stayed at Carnell House in East Ayrshire, sparking massive police operations in each case.
Garnock Valley independent councillor Donald L Reid, himself a former policeman, told North Ayrshire Council’s Police and Fire and Rescue Committee: “Thanks to the Chief Superintendent and also the officers for all the great work that was done during the Presidential visit and later on the Vice-President.
“It was probably the biggest policing exercise in the whole of the UK.
“Hats off to the whole of the Ayrshire division for doing that so well, supported by so many officers from across the UK.
“Thanks also to Chief Inspector Judith Macgregor for running things so well in North Ayrshire.”
Ayrshire divisional commander, chief superintendent Suzanne Chow, added: “I would like to take the opportunity to thank the locally elected members and to the community and local authority for their support during the Presidential visit and that of the Vice-President.
“It is really important to acknowledge that.”
