The second race in the opening round of the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs is set for Sunday afternoon, as tensions will surely rise in the Enjoy Illinois 300 at World Wide Technology Raceway.

The first race of this year’s postseason had plenty of drama. In the annual Southern 500 at the historic Darlington Raceway, Chase Briscoe had the best run of his career. One of the competitors expected to flame out early in the playoffs, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver led over 300 laps and snagged the victory. With that, Briscoe becomes the first driver to punch his ticket to the Round of 12.

Briscoe had a great battle with Tyler Reddick near the end of the race. Reddick ended up finishing second, keeping him in a solid spot to advance. With the No. 45’s result, he sits fourth in the postseason standings, trailing Denny Hamlin and Kyle Larson.

The four drivers in the bottom four are reigning series champion Joey Logano, Austin Dillon, Alex Bowman and Josh Berry. All are trailing road course star Shane van Gisbergen for the 12th and final spot.

Logano and Austin Cindric have both won at Gateway in their NCS careers, as well as Kyle Busch.
