  3. Reading the article it looks like it is drugs related. As a Law student she should have known better, it is well know that middle eastern countries have a poor tolerance of foreigners and drug related crimes.

  15. I read that Dubai women’s prisons are quite pleasant. I mean probably not as good as Drayton Manor Park or Twycross Zoo, but no doubt better than Walsall.

  18. Always amuses me how organisations like detained in Dubai and UK govt give consular assistance, and then several months later they miraculously are released from jail.

    Would it work if for example Vietnam gave consular assistance to one of its citizens in the UK

  22. I feel bad for anyone in this position, but it IS their fault. Some people have got no accountability, perhaps because they were not raised to appreciate the importance of being accountable for your own actions. Parents, don’t let your kids grow up to be entitled by bailing them out for the small stuff, otherwise this is where it might end up. (Equally, parents, if you act entitled, you’re not helping anyone, especially your kids).

  24. Last time I travelled through Dubai Airport my carry-on bag was selected for a security check, they opened it up and everything was covered in white powder. Turned out it was just a packet of electrolytes that leaked but I was a bit worried when they took it away for a few minutes to swab it for drugs.

    People should really know that possessing drug in those counties is definitely not in their best interests. Even being drunk in Dubai is dangerous.

    It’s a truly dark and sinister place. Everything is manufactured and fake. And I equally can’t stand this view that (mainly) women hold, where other nations are completely safe and you can go there and not respect cultural norms and values, let alone the laws, and just get away with it.
