According to the agency, the network in Europe was organized by the Belarusian State Security Committee (KGB) to recruit agents and collect intelligence. European intelligence services exposed members of the network and KGB operatives, including a former deputy of Moldova’s intelligence service (SIS), who was tasked with passing secret information to the KGB.
The Czech Security and Information Service stated that the Belarusians managed to build the espionage network “primarily thanks to the ability to move freely across Europe.”
In addition, the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it had declared a Belarusian embassy employee working for the KGB persona non grata.
“We will not tolerate the abuse of diplomatic cover for intelligence activities,” the ministry said.
Joint Russia-Belarus drills Zapad-2025
The joint military exercises of Russia and Belarus, Zapad-2025, will take place from September 12 to 16, 2025. According to official data, more than 13,000 servicemen are expected to participate in the maneuvers.
The Kremlin and Minsk assure that the exercises are purely defensive in nature and do not pose a threat to other countries.
At the same time, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi warned that offensive troop formations could be secretly established under the cover of these maneuvers.
Earlier, the head of Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, warned that strong information pressure would accompany the Russia-Belarus Zapad-2025 drills from the very first days.
The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine also does not rule out provocations during the Zapad-2025 exercises.
