SS – A former Biden era Latin America advisor, Juan González, has cautioned that the US risks being drawn into a “disastrous” military intervention in Venezuela after a US strike on 2 September, carried out via attack helicopter or drone, killed 11 alleged drug traffickers aboard a Venezuelan boat, part of a broader US naval buildup in the Caribbean aimed at combating narco terrorism. González labeled the move political theater, warning that hardline Venezuelan opposition forces and Washington hawks such as Senator Marco Rubio may be pushing the US toward confrontation, and that the country’s complex mix of paramilitaries, criminal networks, and regional insurgents could spark a protracted guerrilla style war, far more hazardous than past US interventions such as Panama in 1989.

   I do agree with this part. Not to mention that there are countries in the region and the broader world that do support Maduro’s regime (Cuba, Venezuela, China, Russia, etc). I think that if Trump were to directly attack Venezuela you’d see much of the ‘developing world’ side with Venezuela.

5. So… this guy participated in the cover up of Biden’s cognitive decline. Take his statement with a grain of salt.

6. Well, I am pretty sure US marines will not land in Venezuela. Current administration is really against any deployments, whatever any say loudly. But hit from the distance – sure. And basically – why not?

7. Even more of a reason why this Latin America pivot is cringe. Such little value in combatting Maduro, with such a vast blowback risk

8. All while China invades Taiwan. This administration is a joke at best and actively acting against Americas interests. I wonder how much long term damage has been done?

9. I knew this was gonna happen when they discover new oil near Venezuela. When there’s oil, WMD tend to be found and a little freedom needs to be spread.

10. Trying to bully everyone either economically or militarily just shows how desperate you are.

    The empire might be declining faster you thought…

11. I don’t see the leap from targeted strikes to boots on the ground.

12. About the level of analysis I’d expect from such a geopolitically disastrous administration.
