SEATTLE (AP) — For decades, scientists believed Prochlorococcus, the smallest and most abundant phytoplankton on Earth, would thrive in a warmer world. But new research suggests the microscopic bacterium, which forms the foundation of [the marine food web](https://apnews.com/article/antarctica-krill-whales-global-warming-fishing-boom-bd7708913cd1482ae190365b04d98ede) and helps regulate the planet’s climate, will decline sharply as seas heat up.
Of course they do. I hope future generations have the opportunity to look back in shock at our collective arrogance in continuing to perturb a chaotic system thinking we could predict and manage the results.
Sometimes I wonder if we’ll eventually kill off our oxygen supply. Then you’ll see the climate change deniers being the first ones to buy up all the bottles of oxygen
